1- On the desktop, go to the Taskbar properties. Click on the Navigation tab. Uncheck all boxes in the Corner
Navigation section. This will disable the charms and corner commands.

2- In the Start Screen section of the Navigation tab, check the "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" box. This will direct you to the desktop on boot up.

3- Download and install Classic Shell here: http://www.classicshell.net/. This will give you a Windows 7 Start button and menu.

4- Download and install Windows Live Essentials for Windows e-mail or any other e-mail program that you prefer.

I'll have to have the wife do it cause you lost me after #1.
