Ok, last time this year to try the car, 1964 Ply. Bel. car weighs 3465 with me in it, 509RB ,3800 turbo action, dana 60 w/ 4.56s, 590 PS, victor small port heads, tunnel ram w/ 2 750 eddys, hoosier tires out back, this was a no prep race, old school, no clocks arm drop starts, track was pretty cold, and there was no pimp juice allowed. cal tracs, 9way shocks on the back, 90-10s on the front. I set the bars with a nickels worth of clearance and the shocks on five, the car lunges off the line and unloads the suspenison about a 100 ft out and takes off to the right, then no matter how I try it will not hook back up. to those with more experince than me, am I suposed to preload one side or both? both sides the same? the car hooks for about twenty feet before the suspension unloads and starts to spin. from then on it doesn't seem to make any difference what I do after that,it will still break loose in high gear even! odd feeling skating around like your on snow at 70mph, some of the cars run hard and straight and some are having the same issues I am. someone with a simular b-body give me some hints. Dave

Wish I could help but I just run SS springs and the old MP longer non-adjustable shocks. I am sure some who runs the Cal Tracs and adjustable shocks will chime in. Ron

I have a flat spot in front of my house about 75 yds long to play on, we had a ice storm last night so it will be a few days before I can try any thing. I set the clearance at the thickness of a nickel which I have learned now was incorrect, it should have been drivers side hand snug, and pass side 1/4 turn tight preload, to start. as soon as the road dries off and the sun comes out for a while I'll try some more. If it gets to acting right I'll haul down to Bowling Green and see how it acts on a prepped surface, course I guess I could spread some pimp juice on the road out in front of the house!! only have to go 50 ft to test LOL Dave.

I think you'll get more help in the Racer's Hangout thread, there's some guys that have good experience with cal-tracs that are in there regularly

Video? Where are the rear shocks set? If it's going to the right, the left rear has more traction. Need to add some preload to the RR.

dvw, that is exactly what I intend to do, the car is heavier on the driver side due to my fat butt, which would make it turn right some, if the preload will cure that, all I'll have to work on then is the suspension unloading 60-70 ft out. if I have asessed this right, the shocks are pushing back and unloading the springs, soften the shocks ?? car lunges some off the line, from what I can see in some vid's of other cars the car leaving seems to be pretty smooth, mine is not smooth. well, got more stuff to try as soon as the weather permits. Dave.
