I know header are the way to go but was wondering if anybody out there in mopar land has run or is running manifolds on there a big inch 440 im building a (496) pump gas, eddy head, roller cam, motor for my 67 gtx .(street/strip). Thought it would be cool to do the sleeper thing, manifolds to 3"tti exhaust with x pipe just a thought im most likely going to go with a 2 1/8" tti step header and 3" x pipe exhaust need to make up my mind. Motor is almost ready thanks brothers _DSC6988.jpg

The 3" tailpipes will 'kind of' give away a large displacement.

Although the headers will outflow just about any iron manifold, with some porting and work they can be used. F.A.S.T. cars use them unmodified and are running in the 10 second range. So a casual look under your hood can give the appearance of a stock engine while in fact hiding other mods.

You can send your manifolds out and get them extrusion honed.

But as stated above, a nice sounding engine with big tail pipes will give you away.

The F.A.S.T. cars are amazing. Look stock, run like a Banshee.

A buddy runs cast manifolds on his 512 max wedge clone 64 savoy, with 3" exhaust. He knows headers would be better but he likes the max wedge look under the hood.

I put headers on my 2014 Jeep SRT after a month of owning it. You can always go back to stock manifolds and my R/T sounds and runs better with TTI headers.

Check this link out. I was trying to do the same thing you are.
It was very difficult to get the best performance out of it.
you will need to keep compression to a reasonable level have really good quench, run it rich a bit to keep cylinders cool, lots of duration to keep cylinder pressures down and a wide LSA on the cam.

Can choices I used were bullet and cam motion, heard from a few members and talked to Mr 6pack and he has worked extensively with manifold engines and got them to work well. Very great guy very informative.

It can be done but alot of effort needs to be put into it. I busted my head against a wall so I put headers and it all went away and picked up roughly 100HP

Good luck and keep us posted.

Are you saying you got 100HP going from manifolds to headers?

Headers. TTI. Ceramic coated. Polished. Almost $1000. to the door. 8 years ago.

I had my TTI headers re-coated this winter and the guy charged me $300.00. He told me that the engine ran lean and took the coating off and the thick glop of oil run off probably did not help either. I can't remember how much they cost five years ago, but they were ceramic coated and fit perfectly.

No way 100 HP from just headers, maybe 20 HP.

I'm sorry I should have mentioned the entire ordeal. The engine was basically de-tuned to run with manifolds.
So by moving the timing from a total of 28 to 36, then bring the timing all in by 1800 instead of 3200
rejecting the carb to about 14.0 A/F ratio instead of 12.0 which was needed for pinging reasons
Putting back the 1/2 inch spacer which the manifolded engine didn't like.
Changing the heat range on the plugs and widening the gap for a better burn.

The dyno showed going from 460hp to 550

So to clarify things the 90 or so HP was picked up as a result of the proper tuning that went with it.
headers were 2" to 3 1/2 " collectors hooker super comps

Hope this helps out

ya , i use to have a 66 belvedere big block /stall 727 4:88's with m&h cheater slicks and steel rim dog dish hub caps the look on peoples faces was priceless o it had headers . think the sleeper look is cool

43364-130-0.jpg43363-500-0.jpg you roll up on a GTX with stock steel rims and dog dish hub caps first thing i would think is little old ladies car then upon further inspection it would become apparent that this GTX might not be the one to tangle with by the sound of them pipes179215_a167f62169_low_res.jpgfull-18308-22908-67_gtx_dark_blue.jpg
