Manual drums

anyone know where to get good quality wheel cylinders? i bought some oreillys few months later it leaked

I’ve been buying Raybestos. Hard to say about quality. I had one leak during bleeding and after removing found one end cup was not fully snapped on (not sure how that caused a leak). Took it apart, wiped it out, lubed it with brake fluid and reassembled and it worked fine.

I bought these on amazon ($18 ea) and they have been on the car over 2 years without a leak or issue.

Hey everyone. I have manual drums on my 67 belevedere. They brake like I'm on ice basically. I have yet to get the chance to take the wheels off and go through them.

I read they have automatic adjusters, however I looked at some photos and they seem to be the basic spindle with a stopper that you adjust from behind with a flathead. Is this correct? Can these brakes feel decent or should I look into front disc's and a booster?
I have a 66 Satellite and I changed them to Disc very easy and well worth the time and money

If you have brake fluid or axle seal starting to leak onto the shoes, that wheel will lock up. Easy way to tell is if hot water wipes it off, its brake fluid. Grease will just smear.

I used to run low 120's at the strip on the 10s,, now at 127. You definitely have to get on em after the stripe- and we have a decent shutdown. Disc's are on the drawing board for me.

Imagine if you had to do it twice.

Have not experienced brake fade since 10 mile Hill going in to Ogden, Utah when moving to California. 10” Drums on the 69 Sport Satellite. That was in 1991. Did plenty of drag racing since. Slow car. Maybe 13’s. Not one time. The Redeye has more brakes than the other cars. In fact, probably all the other cars combined. At about a buck thirty plus they were still not needed.

So i got out there a checked everything, bled them and topped off the fluid. They're much better. Stops well!

I guess when the last owner replaced everything he didn't get them bled right.

Gettum up to 90 and break them all in together lol

Now that they're stopping right I could see it. Still That's crazy lol, you must've spent plenty already.

I've bled alot of breaks and my advice is to use a vacuum bleeder! Grase up the bleeder screw before you start and suck all of the old fluid and bubbles out! Done.
