What does everybody use on their early B bodys? I'd like to use manual but am wondering how much of a gorilla you have to be to comfortable with it.

Manual vs Firm Feel

I have a 65 Belvedere with Manual steering with a big block and I have no problems turning. I also am using the stock steering wheel.

manual steering here. easy to turn with stock wheel. i changed it for a 13"grant, a little tougher but not terrible

The secret for manual steering is to keep the car moving. Trying to turn the wheel with no motion is considerably harder.

70 Road Runner with 235/70-15s and a 440. Fine on the freeway, arm-cramper in a parking lot. I'm thinking of dumping my headers (ceramic coating DOES rust) and going back to factory manifolds and then retrofitting power steering.

Just a thought/question for you guys using manual steering. An ac equipped car uses les than 4-5 hp to turn when its on, so why the big deal not to use power steering? It couldn't possibly use that much hp to turn the pump...or could it? I'm just asking cause I don't know the answer.

I have manual as well, when I'm in my 80s I'm converting to a FFI unit

Well put:headbang:I have the stock manual box,smaller Grant wheel to make it a little easier to get over the door bar.Also have the same dana spool that came with the car over 20 years ago.Street drive over 2000 miles a season{When it's together:violent-smiley-100:}
