Manual Outside Rear View Mirror Repairs For Loose Head

I have a nice original outside rear view mirror with the Pentastar symbol on it but the head is loose.
I have tried putting different things on the ball but it always becomes loose again.
So what I am wondering has any one ever removed the mirror glass without breaking it and
then tightened up the pivot and reassembled?
I thought maybe someone with experience in a glass shop and mirrors might know how?
I have attached a picture of the mirror I speak of.

Some of the early ones had a snap ring and a spring behind and the glass would come out.
Later the glass was glued. I believe yours is later.
With the glass out some had 2 screws and spring steel strap that put tension on the ball socket.
That said you just tightened the screws for more tension. After those they no longer had screws.
I have seen that you can drop a small amount of super glue on the ball (no glass removal needed).
The super glue fills the void. You can then break the bond of the glue and the head becomes adjustable.
The ones we did we would set the sight then apply super glue and the mirror would stay put for your vision.
That is if you are the one driver. Worth a shot.

Darter6,
Since mine is a later one with a 1971 date code and
it probably doesn't have screws, how would I adjust it
if I did remove the glass?
I have heard of a guy putting super glue in there and
he kept moving the head as the glue dried and had a
fix that lasted a while also.
What made you think it was a later mirror?

Just a guess. I have see repo's with and without the Penta Star logo.
1971 it's most likely not going to have screws. I have been wrong before...
