Can I have some advice please? I need to replace my steering box in a 68 Coronet. It's got to be a simple bolt on swap.

There's low cost shiny and bright stuff on ebay, and there's Flaming River and others etc.

What should I do and where should I go?

Whatever I do, because I live in the UK, exchange rates (i.e. weak £), shipping and customs is going to hurt me bad! But I need to at least make the right choice!

I have the steering box you need am not longer using it since I have my conversion to hydraulic steering is the original from the coronet in case you are interested

If you can find a shop in the UK that rebuilds old steering boxes, there is a rebuild kit out there somewhere with a new worm gear. I was happy with the stock style manual steering box (except for parking) that I ran for 20+ years. Swapping out the steering box isn't too hard BUT... be very careful not to push on the steering box end of the steering column where the steering coupler is AT ALL. There's two small plastic "shear pins" in that shaft that allow it to collapse during an accident & they're a pain to replace (ask me how I know).

Get a box on eBay and be done with it. It's a simple remove, replace swap and you'll be driving again in just a few hours. That is the simplest and least expensive route for you.

Thanks for the tip PurpleBeeper. I'm not looking to rebuild it though, the third bolt hole is partly broken, so I think this is causing it to get loose every 500 miles. So figured it's best to replace.
Is the stuff on ebay (e.g. http://ebay.eu/2ehrFJB or http://ebay.eu/2e5Dxys ) good enough for the job? I'm a bit concerned it may be badly made monkey-metal shiny and bright sh!te! I only wan't to do the job once!

You can't go wrong with Flaming River steering boxes.......they are just expensive.
