Ive got a 63 Plymouth with 3 on the tree and will convert to a floor shift 4 speed. First question. Is the bolt pattern on the bell side of the 3 speed the same bolt pattern as the bell side of a later model OD 833? Is it a direct bolt up or do I need a to make modifications as in different bell housing? Will the OD trannys bell fit up on the 318 poly? I haven't reached this stage in the car so trying to get a grip before I get there. Looking for input from those that know. Thanks. I'll check back tonite.
 
Unless the bellhousing has a dual bolt pattern for the transmission, it won't fit. If the '63 uses an adapter plate due to the crank flange, you would need to keep the adapter. I just confirmed that the LA bellhousing will NOT fit on the back of a '60 318 Poly unless an adapter is used. My friend and I have used the LA bellhousing on early Hemi's, but the adapter has to be used. Pick up yourself the Mopar Performance Chassis manual (P44522791) and a lot of these question can be answered not to mention that there is a plethora of helpful info in there. When you ge a bellhousing to work, the Z-bar pivot on the bellhousing will need to be adapted to allow the bar to work properly.
 
'63 didn't have the extended crank flange like the pre-'62 so there's no adapter, any LA 4-speed bellhousing will fit the '63 Poly but the Z-bar bracket location and bearing retainer size become an issue with the later bellhousings.

Bee, good advice on the manual. I've got a bunch of em but that one I don't have. Looks like another chance to learn more about Ma Mopar. Thanks guys and I'll let ya know of the train wrecks as I head down this rail.
