I'm not sure about the tapered hole comment above. Generally the automatic crank is just not finish drilled which means the pilot bushing hole not as deep and just slightly undersized. The reason people cut the input shaft is because the automatic hole isn't deep enough. However there was so much variance back then- and so many engines available- some auto cranks were drilled deep enough but just not finish drilled for the brass bushing.
Standard replacement pilot bushing, for original 4-speed crankshafts is .940 outside diameter. The depth of the hole should be 1.125" if finish drilled.
There is an adapter bushing (balkamp BK615-1033) that is slightly undersized in diameter to fit inside the unfinished hole, but you'll still need to deal with the depth of the pilot hole if it's too shallow. I'm not sure of the diameter of this piece, but it is said to fit a .904 hole.
