Hi all, working on a 67, manual brake car - pulled out the old master cylinder, had 2 threaded holes where a retaining piece screwed in around the rod. Newer master cylinder doesn't have those, has a white plastic piece that slips between the master & firewall.

Do I:

A) Hunt down a reman of the "correct" master cylinder

B) Put it together as is, since I can't see how that rod would pull all the way back out

Master cylinder, plastic piece = later
Rod w/retaining rubber bushing, rubber cup, rubber boot and metal screw-in retainer = '67

Hep me, hep me...

Thanks so much in advance!

Is there a spring?

My 66 single m/c also has a return helper spring.

It was a bitch to get the pedal rod out of the m/c plunger.

I was getting ready to start a thread asking if my new 2 bolt m/c needed that helper spring.
There's no place on it for that retainer either.

I think the rod, with it's small rubber/plastic grommet (I think I have also used small fuel line), should hold without the retainer. Plus, you have the bolt on the pedal.

Thanks YY1 (nice Schenker V avatar, BTW), that's what I figured.

It looks like the firewall side of the plastic piece is shaped to contain / hold / retain exactly what that side of the old bolt-on piece does / did. A friend came over and looked at it and said "no problem. Bolt it up. It can't go anywhere far enough to come out anyway."

He doesn't even use the rubber retaining bushing so future swapouts go much easier. He's been doing it for 40 years professionally and hates those pedal rods with a passion by now. :)

No spring in mine but I'm not into the MC any further than where the pedal rod pushes it. I'm sure there's some more fun stuff in there I want nothing to do with...

Hope both of our projects work out!

I used to think it was so cool when they used to play Vs with opposite paint jobs.
I think they play the same ones now....and I think they're now Deans.

I almost bought a white 1966 Gibson V for $500 at a pawn shop in 1986 because of the Schenker bros and KK Downing. But bought an 86 Charvel Strat instead.
Even though the V is now worth $5000, it turns out my Charvel has the lowest serial number on record after they switched from custom hand builds for Van Halen, George Lynch, etc in California to mass production in Japan.

I will also say that Charvel is one of the sweetest feeling guitars I have ever played, and it has spoiled me to where I almost don't like any other neck.

I remember those days well and still consider the Charvel Model 6 to be one of the best of the era. Vs were ridiculous on me so I never got into them. They're bigger than I am :)

Another gem from a little later was, of all things, the Washburn N4. But yeah, the black & white Vs were just epic to see for the first time...

...nostalgia (sigh). Flying Vs, sidepipes & Cragar S/S mags. What else do you need?

The master cylinder went in fine. I don't anticipate any problems with that part of the car at least.

Please post pics of your car.

Those are my favorite non-functional hoods.

I went last weekend to look at a 74 318 car, but one quarter was completely beyond repair and the other was in severe trouble. it was, however, a running driving bucket/buddy seat rallye dash a/c car for $2500 OBO.

I wish i could put one of those hoods on my Dakota. I think the lines are a good match.
I've measured, but it's too long. I'd have to build a 2/3 scale one :(

My Charvel is a model 2 in basic black. About 6 months after I got it, I put an R/T hat pin emblem on the neck.
It's been there ever since and looks like it's supposed to be there.
I had the idea back in the day, to do custom paint jobs on guitars with stripe packages from performance cars.
About 6 months ago, I saw a "Super Bee" paint job on a strat clone. Too far ahead of my time, I guess.

There are several musicians on this board and the A body board including AdamR, one of the mods.

Scroll over and the Charvel is in the background-

The headstock is in this one. Scroll up and Adam and I are having a discussion about instruments.

My uncle did live sound and mixing board for local acts in Ohio, and also for some Ohio native national acts when they were in town. Rick Derringer was one I remember. Most was before I was old enough to know.
He took me to my firs car show and rock concert- at the same time.
Brownsville Station at Carl Casper's. Miss ya, Buck- RIP.

It rubbed off on me a bit, and I've run the boards for a few small time acts myself, and got invited to be a replacement local crew member for Smashing Pumpkins.

I also inherited a 77ish Westbury that plays as good or better than any Les Paul I've ever played, and an "in progress" 65ish Silvertone/Danelectro, along with a hot rodded 1969 Fender Twin with JBL/Altec drivers.

Every time I talk about music gear I have to thank "Linda" at the Marshall factory for giving me incredible easy controlled feedback- smooch out to ya!

Here are a couple - my favorite hood too. Wish someone would do some of these hood bulges in fiberglass, I'd put 'em on everything. That bulge with the nostrils burned into my brain back in the late '70s when my cousin had a red '73. This is my dream car even as it sits. I can't wait to get working on it.

I do music/guitars for a living and cars for pure fun/mental health on the side.

The 'Runner is a 74, green & green, no AC, no pwr brake, roll-up window, AM radio, bench seat, 3-speed manual 318 car. Zippo for options! Needs everything, came out of a North Texas barn via a buddy in Oklahoma.
