I have a 63 Plymouth Sport Fury with the 383 and factory Air. The ac compressor froze and burnt up, and I lost the belts too. I found this post from some time in the past that addresses my problem, and I need to get a "matched pair" of belts for this car. I currently have a have a pair of belts that are slightly different in length, and the longer belt is "sloppy". (found in the forum from a previous post--"A lot of people also don't know this, but you NEED to have what's called a "matched pair" of belts for the alternator and A/C. That means they were both cut from the same slab of belt material and probably sequential, so they are exactly the same length. This is NOT unimportant. Most big box "counter people" will give you a dumbfounded look when you ask for a matched pair of belts so you need to find a seasoned PARTS MAN. He will know"). Can anyone direct me to any supplier than can help me? Thanks SPORT FURY63

today belt makers say their materials and process is so precise this is no longer a necessity...however I am not convinced..the belts do in my humble opinion still require the same mother and side by side, this is the matched part of the set.... .I tried in the past to get matched belts from any and all of my locals to no avail....I did however got to look at the stock in the back and luckily was able to find a set that were from the same mother but could not verify if cut side by side...they did tighten and wear evenly for me..check the lot numbers you may get lucky...

Appreciate the info--I had never heard about this before--I have tried everyone in this region and have no luck getting matched belts, but I will keep trying!

most belts have a cut serial # on them, you just need to find two with the same #.try a larger retailer and look at the belts in your size.you should see the # and have them check there stock or call there other stores for matching belts.
