I bought a 1965 dodge with a mopar performance max wedge intake on. It came with stock repo air cleaners that are to tall and the hood won't close. Is there some thing out that works with this intake? They are 11" dia.It seams if I cut the hood that they would hit the hood scoop. Any ideas? Thanks

perhaps a drop base?

I dont know if they make them, but im sure someone more knowledgeable than I will chime in...good luck!

The original Max Wedge air cleaners have a drop base that even has an indent in it for the fuel inlet. Even with these drop bases the center area of the air cleaner would hit the bracing under the hood. On max wedge cars the bracing is removed and there are I believe 7 inch holes in the hood under the scoop over the carb center. Take the air cleaners off and run the velocity stacks with the foam on the top for a seal to the under side of the hood & scoop. 65 MW LF 1.jpgDSC01320.jpgThese are actual max wedge air cleaners & bases on the stock original intake. The first picture with the K & N filters still use the same drop bases. I believe the new MP Max Wedge Cross Ram is higher and may have different clearance issues.

photo.jpgFrom what I have been told the Mopar one is a 1/2 taller then stock.I think they will still hit if I take off the under bracing.

A friend did a 65 Belvedere (Hemi MP cross ram) and ran into the same problem. Yes both the Hemi and max MP crossrams are taller. On the 68 Hemi Darts and Cudas they spaced the K frame down 1'' from the frame rails. So they did it on the Belvedere. It helped but the Hemi MP cross ram was still too high even with the hood cut and scoop installed. Now they do make repro hood scoops that are higher than the factory scoops that will cure the problem that's if you want a scoop. These guys wanted to retain the factory scoop look. So no dice on air cleaners for them yet.

Yes they are Indy heads. Thinking I will take a different air cleaner with the same 5/8 drop and cut off where the air filter goes and drop it down around 3/4". If this works i will modify the stock ones. Also plan on taking out the under hood brace and cut holes in it for clearance.

gained 9/16

bought a air cleaner from summit Part # PRO-302-350 and machined .850 off the neck gained 9/16 from the stock bottom.they are $54 each.I haven't cut the under side of the hood yet but they due clear with the filter on, so is should work.Thought this mite be helpful if your having the same problem.
