Hello,

I recently got this car unfinished and i am in the process of putting together a parts list. So bear with me on the questions.. Its a 1974 Charger SE 440, bigger comp cam with aluminum heads. Edelbrock performer 440 intake, Edelbrock 1407 750CFM carb (decided on this one).

1. Will a stock mechanical fuel pump work or should i be looking at something like the Edelbrock 1723 performer?
2. Need to replace the gas tank and fuel lines (going stainless steel 3/8 lines), should the inside of the tank be painted with KBS?
3. What sort of plugs would be best? the guy i bought it from gave me a new box of Champion Copper something plugs, claims these are best, but i've always been partial to e3's...

any advice/thoughts is appreciated...

a stock fuel pump will work fine, you only need a high flow pump if your motor is pumping out some serious HP and using a big carb.
If you are going to replace the gas tank, no need to coat the inside of the tank it's new, as for spark plugs I run Champion, but use what ever you want. If I was making high HP and racing I would be more worried about the plugs.

Mechanical Mopar HP fuel pump in mine works great. About 500 at the crank. I use only NGK spark plugs.

there were two "stock" mech fuel pumps from the factory. the low performance 3-5lb pump which i'd never use and the hipo 8-9lb pump which in it's original form is no longer made and should be used with the vapor separator return line. best options are aftermarket and these could be the edelbrock, carter 6903, or holley.

I'd say a mechanical pump at 6-7 psi is fine. No painting of inside of gas tank needed. Champion RJ12Yc plugs to start off, then check afterward for heat range and carb adjustments.

440 for my bee just got rebuilt. Made 460 hp and 510 torque. Running stock fuel pump and RJ12YC champions. No need to coat inside of fuel tank.

thank you all for the great advice... going to go with the Edelbrock fuel pump, maybe add a fuel pressure regulator/gauge, i put one in my 71 Lemans, handy.

You should be good with the mechanical pumps as suggested. But if you have problems as I did with my six pack you could always go electric - I finally turned to. mr. Gasket electric pump and have had no problems since. Good luck!
