I'm sure this has been topic before. I just watched Barrett Jackson from Houston. It looks as if Barrett Jackson has more customs and Mecum more traditional. I'm willing to bet their buyer and seller commissions are simular? But both very similar show formats. And I also am seeing classic muscle prices seem to have stabilized a bit? Not so true on the sale sites. But just an observation on the auction blocks.

I like Meecum. More cars my price range.

Mecum and Russo& Steele. I sold a few cars at Barrett. I didn't have a bad experience but the other two have more down to earth people.
Barrett is more of a dog and pony show that cater to the Celebrities and mega wealthy. Don't get me wrong, I have seen some good deals at Barrett-Jackson.
But more fluff, not for me.

Well:
Dana and now Frank are the King Pins
(They own some of the best and rarest Pontiac performance on the Face of the earth
That being said:
"Barrett-Jackson" was owned and run by:
Russ Jackson and Tom Jarrett, both from AZ in 1967
The "Market" was primarily Steamers, Stanley's and Dobles etc,/Brass High and the Dusenberg's, Packards, Lincoln's, Cords Pierce Arrows.

Dana comes along and starts the Mundane wich is now Muscle
No Muscle car was famous in 1972...right

Craig took the Auction over from Jarrett and his Dad after they died

Barrett-Jackson has been sued numerous times
Barrett-Jackson hav been accused of being the single point in driving up Muscle cars over the past 20 years

Mecum is TOPS

I prefer Barrett Jackson myself

to each their own

been to a few of them

Both are in the same 10% range commish on both sides of the deal, plus run fee. I’m sure phone, internet and no reserve at Mecum and BJ are a few points different.

Biggest difference is BJ is no reserve. Very rarely will you see them run a car with reserve.

Another vote for Mecum.
Seen decent Mopar restomods go for around 16 gran on Mecum.

The pattern seems to be buy from Mecum. Sell on BJ? I believe this at one time was true with Craigslist vs Ebay. But trends seems to be tightening?

I am not picking a FAV per say, but for "making the deal" Mecum seems more flexible when dealing with the seller..
And to me, yup, Mecum seems to have more Muscle

so, yup, Mecum would be my Fav...

Guy who brought my former GTX out of a 22 year hibernation told me he used Mecum's Chicago auction as his go to source for street rods he sold on his lot. Former owners' widows would take what they could get, process was easy for all parties.

For me, Mecum was great to work with when I put the GTX on the block prior to Covid, had my title and fees back to me in 48 hours when the Harrisburg auction cancelled. As a seller, I wanted the forum with a reserve available, so BJ wasn't an option.

I agree with the B.J. sold girls. I hate the Mecum "the bid goes on" crap. You never know what the majority of there cars seem for. On t.v. anyway.
