Is there a brand of starter that is not more than 4.5" wide at the widest point? I have the mini starter that is 5.5" wide and need a narrower one. Engine is a 1969 stock 383 in a 65 Coronet.

Have you tried the Nippondenso one off the late model magnum V8s. I'm not sure of its dimensions but its compact, light, and almost double the HP of a big block starter.

Here's basically a 440source starter... typical eBay starter. Looks like 5-1/8" across.

This looks like the same one but I bought mine somewheres else.

Rock auto has a nice one ,look it up under your car in the starter section.

Look it up under 1994 dodge truck magnum V8. check ebay, or check junkyard. Only thing that goes bad with these really is the brushes, and contacts in the solenoid get dirty and req cleaning. The solenoid end cap unbolts from the solenoid contactor easily to clean up these contacts. Really robust and easily rebuilt unit. Plus theres a ton of em out there. They put out i believe 2.5 HP compared to 1.8HP of the original big block starter, and sound much better doing it.

Look at dbelectrical.com for #1088. $63

My Coronet R/T has a 440 with 727 and TTI 2" headers. I used a reman starter from NAPA for a 1998 RAM 1500 5.9 liter, which, is a Denso starter. The local parts stores all have them. Father's Day sales are near and you could purchase locally save a bundle and make sure if it doesn't fit or work you can take it back and exchange it.
