Does anyone know what the correct hood ornament would be for my 1966 Satellite with a 361? I have seen the rocket style hood ornaments with engine sizes like 318, 383, 426, and 440. Did they make a 361 hood ornament if so can someone show me a picture? I have also seen the v/8 hood ornaments just want to know what would be correct. Mine was missing/broken off when I purchased the car. I appreciate any help on the subject.

I can verify there was a hood ornament--same rocket styIe as the one used on the 318 and 383 Satellites in 1966. The numerals (361) were vertical on the ornament. I ordered a 1966 Satellite in June 1966, with a 361 / 2-barrel, four-speed tranny, and factory tach, on the last day the dealers could submit orders for that model year. I still have the car, but the hood ornament is long gone, due to a replaced hood in the 1970s, as is the original engine (due to a cracked block on the 361. It now has a bored 383 / 4 barrel with the original four-speed tranny. Restoration 3/4 done, but still need some random parts and chrome. plus paint, to complete the job.

I had a 66 Satellite and it had a 361 rocket style hood ornament on it when I bought it. I changed it out for a 383 version when I junked the worn out 361. Sorry, I didn't save the old 361 ornament.

Man I wish you still had that thing. I would have bought it for sure. Thanks for the information guess I will continue to look for the piece.

rrchief67,
I see you are from MS. I visited a place in Petal, MS this weekend and spoke with a man by the name of Danny Franklin which has nothing but Mopars(40-50 cars) some of which are 66-67 b-bodies. He has a lot of parts and parts cars for sale maybe a place you might want to visit if you are looking for something in particular for a project. Do you know of any other honey holes in MS area for 66-67 b-body parts? I continue to seek out parts for my 1966 Satellite Commando 361 car. Thanks for the information about the hood ornament.

Here's mine...66 Belv w/ 361. Mine's got a 383 hood ornament...
Actually, wondering if you guys might be able to help out. My car was registered as an antique in Mississippi around 2006 or so. Don't know much about it history-wise. Unfortunately, VIN tag went missing prior to me getting it. I would really like to try to find out more about it. Are either of you involved in any local Mopar activites? I know it a long shot, but I figured it's worth a try!

rrchief67,
Very nice big block vert! I bought my car off of Ebay for $1225.00. The car was complete with original 361 2 barrel, 727 transmission, and 3.23 geared 8 3/4 w/posi. The exterior of my 66 has the the premium trim package and little to no rust. The interior is a basket case. The car sat in a barn for 35 years and the rats and mice took up living in it. Originally the interior is the basic Commando option bucket seats w/6-way adjustment, center console, and factory tachometer. I will post some pictures shortly. I definately have my work cut out for me. I just ordered a new 1 piece floor pan, trunk pan, and foot wells from AMD.

rrchief67,
Did you mean the fender tag under the hood or the actual VIN tag inside the drivers door? If you mean the fender tag under the hood you can contact Chrysler and get all the information on the car. Go to this website http://wpchryslermuseum.org find out what documentation you will need to send to the below address.

Yes, the VIN tag in the door is gone. Replaced with a state issued one some time back (before I purchased the car). Trim tag and radiator support stamp are there. No build sheets under either of the seats. If it really is an original 361, I could guess what the VIN would be.
If either of you guys are involved in MOPAR circles in Mississippi and wouldn't mind asking around....after all, how many '66 Belv II orange verts have passed through Mississippi? ;)

hyperhound,
Read the the email addressed to rrchief67 with the information to Chrysler Historical. On the paperwork to get the build records it states VIN/SN. You have the SN and a state issued title so you should be able to the information for your vehicle. Go to this website http://wpchryslermuseum.org find out what documentation you will need to send to the below address.

Reproduction foil engine number inserts for hood ornaments?

Does anybody know of the cubic inch foil decal inserts for hood ornaments being reproduced? I have found the 318 insert for `65 cars (but not for `66) at Year One. I guess `65s were Black with red numbers, while my `66 had an off white (pearl?) with gold (tan?) numbers. I had my pot metal parts rechromed (I don't recommend Superior Chrome out of Houston!) and need another 318 foil decal insert. Any help is greatly appreciated.

i went throught me emblems and this is what i came up with, it is different than my 383 rockets so maybe someone can tell me what this 361 goes on,
BTW any of the three are for sale at $30.00 each shipped, USA only please.

Pic of NOS 1966 Plymouth hood ornament. I bought this from a dealer in the late 80's. I had another badly fade 318, the black was tanish silver. The red was silver.
