OK. I GUESS THIS IS THE BEST PLACE TO POST THIS HOW TO. I HAD A 64 PLYMOUTH FURY 2 DOOR 318 POLY AUTOMATIC AND SWAPPED IT OVER TO AN A-833 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION. HERE IS HOW I SAVED OVER $200.00 BY DOING THIS MODIFICATION MYSELF IN MY GARAGE USING A BI-METAL HOLE DRILL SET 1 INCH USED. THE OTHER TOOLS WERE A SAWZALL WITH HACK SAW TYPE BLADE AND A DREMEL TOOL WITH CUT OFF WHEELS. HERE IS WHAT IS NEEDED TO MODIFY YOUR TRANS CROSS MEMBER FOR A 4 SPEED SWAP FROM AN AUTOMATIC.

STEP 1) YOU NEED TO CUT OFF THE AUTO TRANS MOUNTING BRACKET WELDED TO THE FRONT OF THE CROSS MEMBER. THE CUT CAN BE SEEN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CROSS MEMBER. THE VISE GRIPS ARE READY TO MOVE THE BRKT. AWAY.
1) Cut at area indicated..JPG

PICTURE- STEP 2 BELOW SHOWS THE PIECE BENT FORWARD. THE REMAINING 1/2 INCH AT THE BOTTOM WAS REMOVED WITH A 4.5 INCH GRINDER AND SMOOTHED OUT.
2 after bending the mount forward..JPG
STEP-PICTURE 3 BELOW. SHOWS THE CROSS MEMBER FLIPPED OVER IN THE VISE AND AN AREA MARKED OFF WITH SOAP STONE. THE AREA IS A FACTORY WELDED PLATE. THIS RECTANGULAR IN SOAP STONE, THIS AREA WILL BE REMOVED LATER AFTER 2 HOLES ARE DRILLED WITH A 1 INCH HOLE SAW. THESE HOLKES ARE FOR BOLT-SOCKET ACCESS FOR THE RUBBER TRANS MOUNT.

STEP -PICTURE 4 BELOW, SHOWS THE 2 HOLES DRILLED WITH A 1 INCH BI METAL HOLE SAW. THESE HOLES ARE FOR BOLT ACCESS FOR MOUNTING THE RUBBER MOUNT TO THE TRANSMISSION TAIL SHAFT. AFTER THESE 2 HOLES ARE DRILLED, THE RECTANGULAR AREA DRAWN IN PREVIOUS STEP MUST BE CUT OUT WITH A DREMEL TOOL OR A SMALL THIN CUT OFF WHEEL. SHOWN IN NEXT STEP.

THE NEXT STEP-PICTURE 5 BELOW. FLIP THE CROSS MEMBER IN YOUR VISE. THERE IS 1 HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CROSS MEMBER ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THIS IS A FACTORY HOLE. YOU MUST DRILL A HOLE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CROSS MEMBER FOR A BOLT ACCESS HOLE AS WELL. IT IS SHOWN WITH THE SHINY FRESH CUT EDGE. IN THE NEXT STEP YOU WILL ALSO DRILL A HOLE FOR YOUR RUBBER TRANS MOUNTS BOTTOM SECUREMENT BOLT TO THE CROSS MEMBER. THIS IS DRAWN BETWEEN THE 2 HOLES (SHOWN BELOW) AND YOU PLACE YOUR RUBBER TRANS MOUNT IN THE CROSS MEMBER TO EYE BALL THE RUBBER MOUNT STUD. NOTE* NEW RUBBER TRANS MOUNTS HAVE 1 STUD THAT BOLTS TO THIS CROSS MEMBER AND NEW OLD STOCK RUBBER MOUNTS HAVE 2 SECUREMENT STUDS. THOUGH THE NOS RUBBER MOUNTS IF AVAILABLE ARE VERY EXPENSIVE.
5) DRILL LEFT HOLE.jpg

STEP-PICTURE 6 BELOW SHOWS THE RECTANGULAR AREA CUT OUT WITH A THIN CUT OFF WHEEL. THIS RECTANGULAR AREA IS WHERE YOUR RUBBER TRANSMISSION REAR MOUNT WILL SIT IN THE CROSS MEMBER. THIS IS THE FINAL STEP IN MODIFYING THESE REAR TRANS CROSS MEMBER BRACKETS FROM AND AUTOMATIC TRANS TO AN A-833 4 SPEED.
