Monroes crap after just a few thousand miles?

I installed some Monro-Matic shocks on all four corners of my 67 Coronet wagon a half year ago or so and lately I've found my car is starting to porpoise over big freeway heaves again. It doesn't rebound repeatedly like the blown old shocks, but it will hit a bump, pop up, go down and then bump up again like a stereotypical "old boat."

These shocks ride smooth but it seems like they barely have enough damping for a 3700 pound station wagon after being run in for barely 3-4k miles. I'm running stock-size small block torsion bars. Would I be happier if I sprung for some RCD Bilsteins or would that make my ride worse?

Monroe shocks are not very long lived, so yeah it's no surprise that they are done already...

I have a set of bilsteins on my truck, still going strong after 100k miles....they are pretty much the best shock absorber on the market imo...

Shocks

I have Bilstein's on my Minnie Winnie. It's no light-weight and they really helped the leaning in the wind on I-40 last winter. They ain't easy to get on, though--tuff to compress enough, lying on my back under that chassis. I wound up paying my suspension guy to put them on.

You may want to check your bushings on the shocks. My monroe shocks(rear) have less than 2,000 miles on them and the top bushings went bad first(turned to dust) and the bottoms are now starting to fall apart.Shocks are about 5 years old

I've heard guys complain that Gas-A-Justs have a real buckboard ride to them. Are they just used to old-style sproingy-boing damping?

dont monroes have a lifetime warranty?if so,only requires labor to change.kyb's can give pretty stiff ride and i have seen them snap more then one shock mount because of the stiffness.bilsteins are great but kinda pricey,so its hard to say for sure.
