can any one decode this block casting number 2408780-1
That's just a casting number there. Nothing to decode. Hand stamped numbers on machined pads are you need.can any one decode this block casting number 2408780-1
@Edward Zeliesko Sure its not 2406730? If it is, ive got good news. (If its bare, or shortblock, look for valve notches on the exhaust side of the bore)my block says 426tmp, and the front of the block is AAQA ?? THANKS ED
We cant find that casting number. We are trying to tell you to look at it again, maybe wash it better. We think you are misreading the three and the six as eights.can you tell the cubic inch from the casting, mine reads 2408780-1
It's probably a #2406730 which is a 63-65 426 wedge/Max Wedge block. I don't see any numbers #2408780 in the book.can you tell the cubic inch from the casting, mine reads 2408780-1
Just repeating what I read in the book "wedge + Max perf" 63 and 64 Maxie used the same block as the 65 Street wedge is what I read.No such animal as a 65 maxwedge block, since no 65 maxwedge. Same casting# could have been used in a 65 426 street wedge.
The 426 T MP and AAQA are both good indicators of a maxwedge block. Casting date will tell you year. Pic is a late 62 built 1963 426 max. The font is very different from normal blocks.
