The reason im asking you guys for an opinion is because the car is more then 1,000 away and I couldnt look at it personally....I did have a friend look at it and take the pictures. I dont want gto make the trip and spend 600 in fuel if you all think its not a good idea....but i have always looked for a 68 or 70 charger ever since i had to sell my grandfathers when i broke my neck and the doctors said id never walk again.....Guess i shouldnt of listen to them because yup they were wrong and i learned to drive again.

NO. Have you seen what $25-30K can buy these days on this website and others these days? I'm am absolutely not talking an everyday deal but if you check this site regularly there are the more than occasional finished cars or very nice originals coming up for sale for that price range or slightly above. Not Chargers mind you but pretty much all other 68 -70 B-bodies. What is it you want? A Charger only, nice period Mopar, that would help ID the going prices.

What I see on that car that was painted over just makes me wonder what I'm not seeing that's painted over.....

Looks like it had a restoration at some point in it's life.

typical questions I would ask before coming to value:

how are frame rails especially in back
how are the underside floor pans
what work has been done and/or panels replaced

look at the back window channel, trunk floor(you have pic. not terrible but would need to see the entire trunk floor), and quarters along the bottom for rust starting. All these are typical areas of concern on these cars. If they were repaired at any time, how did they do it?

All these questions will dictate what it is worth.

If it is solid Hell Yes it's worth 20K.....Chargers sell High. Matching numbers, with build sheet,as long as it is not full of mud go for it!

I vote no. PM sent. Look at the disgust/disinterest on the faces of the women looking at the car. I am interested to hear your friend's assessment. If he rated it a buy at 20K, I would get a new friend. LOL

I'm seeing that it needs;
new weather stripping
new headliner
new door panels
new dash pad
needs work around that water pump housing, water pump, t-stat housing (it is ugly, like its got a bad leak, lots o silicone )
where are the heater hoses!?!?!? (Is there a heater core?!?!)
wheres the cowl seal?
wheres the windshield washers?
Flip headlight covers work?
hows the tranny fluid smell?
hows the oil look?
is the trans or rear diff leaking?

my biggest question, why is there a battery charger/jumper sitting in front of it?!?!?!

i agree that 68-70 chargers go for good money (my favorite is the 68) but $20k seems high for what I'm seeing in the pics, (what would I see in person?!?)
around $15k is the most I'd go, but that's me.

It looks like it had a paint job, not a restoration. Check out the door panels and engine for instance. I would be concerned of what's under the paint. Maybe 15K if you really like it.

You said it, brother. Judging by the look on the one in the orange top it's no deal. Keep looking like Tallhair said.

Agree, too much money for too little car.

Exactly, that's what my impression was too.

around $15k is the most I'd go, but that's me.

That car needs a lot of work, and the work that has already been done was done poorly, mostly to hide issues and make a quick sale. I agree, $15k would really be pushing it for me on that car.

It looks like it had a paint job, not a restoration. Check out the door panels and engine for instance. I would be concerned of what's under the paint. Maybe 15K if you really like it.

Once again I agree, this car was NOT restored but it was given a quick paint job. Kinda like puttin' lipstick on a pig.

Hate to be so negative, but really don't see much of anything to be positive about except that if you buy it, it'll cost you a lot more than $20k.

I say no. 20 Grand is to much for the condition it is in (20 maybe if it was completely finished). I would offer 10 but no more then 14. Needs alot of work but looks like a very good solid project driver car (one you can still drive when working on it). Would be curious what the under carriage is like.......Would have the motor checked out (compression check, etc...) and drive it before buying.

I agree with the majority here, $20K is to much for this car. Looks like somebody did a quick paint job for a quick sale. With the quality of the work in the pics, I would really be worried about what was covered up. That car needs a total restoration imo. Look around some more - as stated previously, $25K -$30K will buy a decent non R/T car in todays market.

The paint on the car absolutely does not agree with the condition of the engine.

Why would someone pull the engine, paint the car, then drop the crusty engine back in?

Look at the side shots-

As I said in the other thread, the bottom of the driver's quarter doesn't even match the passenger quarter on the same car!

That tail panel finish panel looks like it's been spray painted. What else?

Is that the factory Y1 Top Banana color?

383 HP car in HIP color with a/c sounds nice, but you might be looking at a lot of cash to redo that quarter and go through the motor.

If that quarter is botched...what else?

It too yellow. And I like yellow.
Oh you said "too much MONEY".
Other's have commented on the paint and what it may be hiding.
Something isn't right here.
I would not give 20k for that car.
It does have a build sheet. That's a big plus.
I don't know maybe that's supposed to be Y3, but it doesn't look right to me.
Colors are funny.

Well....i was uneasy from the beginning and i think i agree with you all....Im passing on it thank you very much on your help. One last question how much does it affect the price on these cars if the motor does NOT match?

They'd have to take 1K off the asking price just because of that dumb chrome air cleaner......

20k can get a real nice car closer to where you are at..I firmly believe if a person looks long/hard they will find someone giving somthing away...(meaning outstanding deal)...don't get anxious..looking it over fairly fast..the car is an A/c car and missing the A/C..heater bypassed..headliner hanging, missing squirter nozzels...

20k or not 20k is of no relavance.dont buy a car that was painted and reassembled with old nonrefurbished parts.95% of the time someone is hidding something.would you go though all the trouble to take a car completly apart, paint it,and reassemble all the old parts as is?

Is $20,000 his bottom dollar? Are you willing to go that far just to discuss the possibility of buying it at a lower price. If the person selling it knows that you came from that far away then he will think that you don't want to go back home empty handed & likely wont budge much off the price. I would look closer to home so you can check a car out for yourself.
