20110624_35.jpgAnd here is a picture of my 1963 Max Wedge taken in 1966 showing the position of the motor after I moved it back 26".
I had already altered the wheelbase 15" forward and installed a Tube Front Axle which was moved 10" forward. Driveshaft was 10" long. The other picture is after I finished the aluminum work.mtr frt seat.jpg
 
Mike, I'm really enjoying your stories and pictures from "back in the day"! It's what I enjoy about going to the US 30 York Pa. reunions. Talking to all the people who were involved with early racing practices. They layed down the ground rules for what we have today. All the experiments in what worked and what doesn't was done back then. Not saying that there isn't any taking place now days but not "by the seat of your pants" racing that took place back then. "Pioneers" is the term I like to use and I could listen to these stories all day long. Keep 'em coming!

The headers in the picture of the motor moved back looking thru the door of the car are actually a set of headers directly off of Al Ekstrand's LAWMAN car. They were one of two sets built by the Ramchargers back in the day. Each tube was 52" long and they all had "slip-joints" to piece them together for the installation. The name they put on the headers were called RAMCHARGER MARK II headers.

Also...just for fun...If you look at that picture, right below the passenger side headers you will note what may have been THE VERY FIRST FRAME CONNECTOR setup. I used a length of Channel Iron for the Frame Connector. I should have got a patent on it...as it might have been the first of what is done with every B Body today...
