I purchased a set of motor mounts for my 73 Charger 440 from Classic Industries. The ones they sent didn't come close to fitting even though their catalog said it would fit.

After doing some research I discovered that I needed the spool type mounts for my application. So I ordered a set of Schumacher mounts from Mancini. I installed them correctly left and right and dropped the engine in. It's crooked. The left side sits a inch higher and the right side of the oil pan bottoms out on the steering link. This is a regular '73 BB k-member and a stock 971 pan. The car originally came with a 400 but everything I've read says that a 400 and 440 should mount up the same way.

The instructions that came with the kit talked about drilling a hole in the left k-member perch to level the engine out, and grinding away portions of the flange to make room for the oil pump. But I thought this was just if you were converting from a SB to a BB. I called Mancini and they had no idea. They said to call Schumacher.

Does anyone make direct '73 BB replacement mounts that don't require cutting up the k-member or purchasing a special oil pan?

Mystery solved. The folks at Schumacher were very helpful. It seems that conversion mounts somehow got packaged into a stock mount box and I was sent the wrong kit. They are sending replacements and a return shipping label. Good, I can go put my drill and sawzall away. Hopefully won't need them.

Glad you got it sorted out before ya started hacking and cutting.

Well that's pretty crummy. These engine lifts/drops arent cheap if you're paying for them...like me. Not only a waste of money but a waste of time as well. Good thing you got it figured out before damaging your vehicle.

Major bummer avoided. Glad t hear mystery was solved before you hit the river of no return.
