Mounting a tach in a 67 Belvedere

Currently have the tach in my Belvedere on the LHS of the steering column it's ok but a little out of the way to see it. I had it on top of the column infront of the speedo but some of the numbers where tough to see.

Does anyone have any suggestions or cool brackets for their tachs?
 
Got mine hose clamped on the column offset to the right. It does block the high end of the speedo, but once you get over 70, well you know.....Lately I've been using my GPS to get an accurate MPH during highway runs.

I made a plate where the speaker grille is in the dash and mounted it to that. At one time someone was making brackets that slip in between the dash and dash pad for B and E body cars. Not sure if they are still around or not.
 
Tach Mounting 67 Belvedere

I have mine mounted on the LHS also but I have it turned so I can see the shift point thru the steering wheelphoto.jpg......works pretty good....Hope this helps
 
I run Mine on the column,left side so I can see 40 mph and up...I memorized speed vs tach rpm and also have a shift light that illuminates like a solar flare. I also have a rev limiter on the msd box so I'm good all the way around.

Dash mounts ruin the dash....console mounts are a pain to look at...and I won't cut the dash either..besides...column mount is old school and still "cool"
 
Meep-Meep that mount looks pretty beefy can't imagine it vibrates or wiggles much?

I don't want to cut any holes on the car either. I have mine like NitroJoe's right now but maybe turning it might make it more liveable, need to pick up a more quality tach anyways.

You are correct. It's solid as a rock - and that was part of the plan.
 
I went a dfferent route. Since mine is primarily a road driven car, I wanted something small...that did not 'over power' the rest of the gauges, yet remained in my line of site. I found a 2" tach made by GlowShift http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/black-7-color-tachometer-gauge.aspx

The odometer is actually visible while seated in the driver's seat. I had to lower the camera to get the photo...the wheel was blocking the flash.

I made a small mount bracket out of thin gauge sainless steel. It attaches to the dash using the center screw hole in the instrument bezel. There is a small amount of vibration, but it's still easy to read.

I covered the exposed wires in heat shrink and ran it under the dash along side the steering collumn. I just couldn't bring myself to drilling a hole in the restored bezel.

The gauge is small enough that the chrome work on the instrument bezel is still visible

I know the smaller gauge might not be for everyone, but it is working well for me. Oh, and for those of you with different colored dash lights, the colors on this can be changed with the push of a button on the gauges face...7 different colors built in.
 
try this one, the front strap continues up over dash pad and tach is mounted to that. I made this one over 25 years ago when i was a kid...car is waiting to be restored now. Bracket works great though, gets the tack up where you can see it without ever touching the dash or pad. Just a thought....
