I need some help with a SS leaf spring hangar issue. I got a line on a set of SS springs that were installed on a 69 Road Runner and that I want to put on my 74 Road Runner. According to Jegs and Summit, the springs and shackles are the same for both applications, but the hangars are different. The one for the 69 Road Runner is for a 116" wheelbase vehicle, and the one for the 74 Road Runner is for a 115" wheelbase vehicle.

So I'm wondering will the 69 Road Runner hangers be an inch too long, or an inch too short, on the 74 car, and if they are an inch too long, can I just drill new holes an inch further back on the hangar to make it work?

I've never really understood that 1" difference thing.

I'm almost convinced it was marketing only.

Same spring, same rear seat, same floor pan. Where's the inch?

Even if it was the front spring hanger, wouldn't that throw the shackle position off and affect spring arch?...

...unless, as you say, the shackle is moved back...then what's the point?

I suppose one could claim the Plymouth could turn very slightly faster, and the Dodge had an ever so minutely softer ride...

The 116" hangar is for 1966-1970 B body sedans and 1971-1974 B body station wagons. The 115" hanger is for 1964/65 B body, 70-74 E body, and 71-74 B body hard tops.
