I read quite a few car magazines. The majority of the time they use miloden thermostats.

Put one in the last engine I built a couple years ago. Had the same problems as you. Threw it in the garbage. I just run a restrictor now, no problems.

Personally, I stay clear of anything Mr. Gasket!

I get good results from Stant 'Superstat' thermostats.

Stant with a tiny hole drilled in the plate.

I've ran Milodon and Moroso with good results but the last few years I just use the Stant caps and thermo's. They have been in business for a very long time and work great. No on Mr. Gasket.

That NAPA one may have an opening too small for good flow, most are around 1". '67 mopar thermostats have an 1.5" opening, the EMP/Robertshaw ones sold by Summit have a similar sized opening. Lots of problems w Mr Gasket 'stats from what I've seen.

good quality and flow.

Bought several (high flow) t-stats. Had overheating issues on and off. Got disgusted and put 4 of the bastards in hot water slowly heating to boiling and 3 out of 4 were ****. One didn't open at all, a 160 stat didn't open at all until 200 degrees. Another never opened wider than 1/2 way. I know that one of them was definitely a Mr. Gasket. Don't remember which one I finally installed but I know I bought most from Summit, but I don't blame them. I drilled that 1/8" hole through it also. Has worked okay ever since.

We just beat this to death in the A body forum where the majority of guys had problems with the Mr. Gasket thermostats. I just had 2 new ones crap out. I now have edelbrock and works well so far. Put it in yesterday.

Thanks for the heads up. I just got one of these for the 383 build. Will definitely be testing it on the stove before putting it in.

Stant Super-Stat. 180.
Ditto. I also drilled a couple holes around the element to allow for burping.
Might have gotten a little crazy with those. Regardless, works great.
I am a veteran of the Mr Gasket POS as well. Summit refunded me on that one and didn't even
want it back!

O.K. Off to the parts store Stant#45478 it is!!!! You would think after it stuck on the Dyno I would have had the brains to replace it!!! Shame on me!!!! Thanks for the info.
