Will it totally replace the electronic ignition control, ballast resistor and voltage regulator?

By totally replace I mean, from ignition switch to MSD to coil to distributor. I want to rip the ignition parts from my fire wall.

Yes, just like the picture but -
Don't mess with the ignition switch. You need the "on" leads to turn the box on (red wire).
Don't mess with the voltage regulator. You still need that. It's not really part of the "ignition". Lots of guys move the regulator to the inside under the dash.

So in reading the schematic the only wire I use that is part of the current ignition is the + wire from the coil. This wire is a combo of IGN2 "start" and a wire from the ballast resistor.

Do I pickup that wire directly from the old coil + end or directly from the IGN2 wire?

You have to track the ignition wire back to keyed switch and combine with red msd. You should find it on your coil I believe. Double check with multi meter and voltage when key on. Attach black and orange msd wires to coil as shown. Make a little jumper wire with correct ends and remove each wire off ballast and add jumper between two ends. Run large black to battery ground and large red to battery pos.

Hope helps!

It does, thank you.

Now my next problem, where to mount the box. No obvious location for me.

You can get a 1 wire alternator like a powermaster or tuff stuff they have built in regulators, so you can lose all the fire wall stuff. and bypass the ballast resistor. Hd my 6al vertically under the washer bottle / horn area on m 69 RR

My car doesn't have the washer bottle, so I put mine right there..on the inside of the engine bay.

I don't have a washer bottle, so that's where mine is. I've seen guys hide theirs under the battery tray.

im thinking under the battery box since I can easily bolt on the vibration studs and don't need to move anything. Only issue I see with this location is access if needed.

Yeah that has to be a royal pita to access there, but same could be said for behind / under the glove box. Once you get the car sorted out, not much reason to touch it.

Just realized that if I can eliminate the mopar electronic ignition box I could re arrange the ballast and voltage regulator to make room for the MSD on the firewall.

However, I'm not entirely sure what to do with all the wires going to and from the electronic ignition. Can I just remove the harness and zip tie it down?
