We're upgrading the cam, intake and carb on our 65 Coronet with a 318 poly. When we pulled the intake and saw a lot of carbon build up, so we decided to pull the heads and have them cleaned and a valve job done. Two of the exhaust valves on the left head are tan, and the middle two are white. Pretty sharp contrast to the right head where they nearly as black as the rest of the head. Were these cylinders running ultra-lean? It had a stock 2-bbl induction setup on it. I know no intake gives a completely equal charge to every cylinder, but this is pretty extreme. Or is this some other problem entirely?

white would indicate a lean situation, brown or tan is good.black is rich or feeding oil into your cylinders.i would change that intake if i was you.if you are using same 2 barrel you might go through the carb as well, just to be safe.

Thanks 67. We're replacing the intake with a Weiand 4-bbl and a Holley so if the problem was the original induction, that should be solved.
