My daughter comes flying in the house screaming/crying her head off, and I managed to get down the hallway in 1/100000000000000000 of a second to see whats going on. She said my son was hurt and bleeding really bad (she's 4), I fly outside and my son is on the driveway crying and bleeding really bad. I see blood all over his face, hands, sleeves, front of his jacket, the driveway and his lip is starting to swell. Snatched him up, get to the kitchen sink (the universal spot for cleaning up scratches, scrapes, cuts, etc...lol) and come to find out his upper 2 front teeth are gone, well most of 1 and a sizeable chip on the other. Called the dentist, "get him here asap" the lady says, haul *** to the dentist, seen within 2 minutes, doc says, after I wrestle my son into the chair and he's screaming bloody murder, not cuase of pain but rather his autism is taking over and he's scared of the "new enviroment".

Doc says he can look at him while he sitting upright instead, "thank god" I say to myself. Well good news, sort of. One new tooth and some hard plastic, kinda like a crown, and he'll be good as new, also the break on the 1 tooth did not expose the nerve so no root canal.

Ok, lets get it done I say, but the dentist says his lip is way too swollen and it will be uncomfortable for him, here's the bad news, gotta wait a week for the swelling to go down then my son will get his 2 new front teeth. Good thing that everyone at his school loves him cause school starts again next monday so the "normal taunting that we all done at some point growing up" will be at a bare minimun. Poor kid looks like Rodney King after the LAPD beat the hell out of him.

I feel bad cause everything that happens to him is compounded due to him being autistic and his mentality is that of a 3-4 yr old and my wife and I cant do anything to take the hurt away, but I will put the skateboards away untill I can get a bitchin' hockey mask for him, lol!!

Damn that's terrible. Tell him some stranger hopes he feels better.

Im sorry to hear it, i feel bad for your son and hope that swelling gos down quick, hopefully in the AM he will be in better spirits with things.. I remember those days when the kids get hurt bad and you want to take the pain away and cant, makes you sick.. A hockey mask sounds good i can imagine what you were thinking trying to find out how bad he was..

Hope he gets too feeling better when he wakes up. Did he just fall or was he trying to do a tony hawk move?

Poor kid, thats gotta hurt !
Their resilient though and will bounce back. Those things are dangerous no doubt as well. Tell him we all hope he's feeling better and he's not the only one to do a face plant but he is in the club now. I'm sure ole Tony Hawk has had his share of them as well.

It'll make a man outta him. WHile all his other friends are whinin and cryin about skinned knees, he can stand there and tell um all that ain't ****. lol

This sounds very familiar to me....I had 5 kids 3 boys 2 girls. They had a new injury report every day when I would come home from work......he sounds like a TOUGH little guy tell him to hang in there! Best of luck................................BTW; I now have 14 grandchildren. I could go on for hours.........something exciting is always happening..I understand.

Well today the swelling has gone down quite a bit. He's up and about doing the usual kid stuff this morning, bugging his sister, so I think he'll be just fine.

I really dont know what he was trying to do trick wise, but he's far from Tony Hawk, more like Barney Phife (spelling), lol! So for the immediate future, I think we will stick to the scooters and bikes....to save me from having a stroke, lol!! He's nk youot the first kid to have an accident nor will he be the last, but it's part of life and we'll handle it as they come.

Thanks for all the support fella's, I/we thank you.

My nine year old son has autism as well. So I know what it's like in terms of screaming bloody murder when he is at the dentist and if he gets any kind of minor injury it's like the end of the world for him, he gets very freaked out. Hang in there.

Hope he is okay.just hate seeing children hurt

I feel bad for your kid and glad to hear he's doing better.
The hockey mask comment was pretty funny though.

5.7 hemi, I'm so sorry to hear that your son was hurt, tell him I feel his pain too.... But kids are resilient, even when they are autistic, I've dealt with young girls like that, OMFG you would have thought they were dying, when they got a scrape... Anyway I hope he feels much better & I hope he didn't get too much teasing/taunting from his piers/friends, kids can be brutal, like that.... I'm sure your wallet took a sizable hit from the dentists too...LOL... I did some really stupid things when I was young, never broke a bone until I was 18 y/o & that was a car {68 Charger} falling on me, I broke my sternum in half & fractured my left arm, when I was younger I got hurt allot like most adventurous boys do, mostly stitches & sprains, scrapes cuts contusions, acting like Evil Kenivil or a dare-devil, on skate-boards, roller-skates, snow sleds {bunch of stitches in my chin & 2 teeth pushed back @ 8 y/o}, big wheels {3 wheelers or tri-cycles} riding down a big hill, sting rays & 10 speed bikes {especially jumping them}, mini bikes, go-carts, motorcycles {especially dirt bikes}, quads & ATV's, even just running, swinging from trees into water, jumping/diving off cliffs into water, jumping into our pool, sliding down grass hills on cardboard, Surfing & Skiing, I was on a 1st name basis with the Emergency room & Doctors at Concord Memorial Hospital...LOL...

Sounds like they should've given you a revolving door discount.

Sounds like he has great parents to me, keep up the good parenting skills.

Glad to hear he's on the mend, 5.7. It's really tough as a parent to see your child hurting. It's even tough to read about someone else's. Nice to see you have a sense of humor about it - you have to have that to survive as a parent!

My youngest daughter got the terrible 2's at about 1 year old and it lasted until she was 10! She broke her arm at 1 1/2 but she found out she could use the cast as a weapon and used it as such! And hard headed...oh man. She's 24 now and on her own thank goodness lol. I love my kids but I'm glad we're not having anymore :D Glad to hear that your son's injury was relatively minor and sorry you almost had a heart attack....I know the feeling well lol

Tell your son losing your two front adult teeth when a kid is not a big deal! In second grade my brother was pushed down in the gym of my grade school, I then preceded to trip over him. I fell teeth first into the tile floor, BAMM two front teeth gone forever!! I'm now 16 and have broken the fake fragile bondo teeth 8 times or something I lost count! Tell him butter fingers and fake teeth don't work out well together! I got hit by a car on my bike, flew into a mailbox and it broke one of my fake teeth, I bit down to hard once and one broke, and some girl hit me with her head and broke one! Sorry bout your sons teeth, but it's not the end of the world and its an awesome conversation piece when picking up girls!;)
Tony

Oh man, sorry to hear that. Wishing him the best from over here. When I fell and hit my head or something my dad would point to a crack in the cement and say "now look what you did to the cement". It got me laughing a bit and took the edge off.

My son is doing much better....asked to ride his skateboard, but I had put his and his sister's up for now. He said "ok dad, how about tommorrow?". Wanting to get back on that horse is a good thing...and good for him! The swelling on his upper lip has gone down quite a bit and his teeth dont hurt and he's back to picking on his sister (or is it the other way around?) lol!!
