My car wont reverse

My car wont reverse...
I need help figuring out whether my tranny finally went out and if I replace it whats my best option to go with... I have a 1966 4 door Coronet, everything worked and one day it woldn't catch reverse anymore. It has a 318 engine automatic transmission with the shifter mounted on the column. Any help is appreciated guys.

A sudden loss of reverse on this trans could be a broken band, but could also be a broken band apply servo piston. If the band is broken the trans will have to come out and apart for repair, if the piston is broken, it can be replaced with the trans in the vehicle. You will have to pull the pan to find out which it is, the servo and band are at the rear of the case and the servo is visible with the valve body in place.
