Hello everyone,

My sisters father, (god rest his soul) bought a dark green metalic 1968 HEMI roadrunner, from a dealership in Council Bluffs Iowa. My current stepdad was his best friend at the time, and he always tells me stories about it. All I really know what happened to it is that my mom, (and older brother) blew up the engine on a cold winter morning, and he eventually sold it.

Is there any way that I can find the VIN# from that car?

Also, I am a realist, but would like to build something similar to it, a satelite, or belvedere. I am on a budget, but I would like to try. It would be a tribute to him, since he died when I was 6.

Thanks for your time, let me know if you have any suggestions.

Chris

Welcome Chris. If you have an old pic showing the license number you might have some luck with that. Depends on your state's DMV. Yes, you can build a "tribute" out of a Satellite or any other 2 door body in the Belvedere line, but keep in mind it will cost as much (or more) for that Hemi under the hood as you will have in the rest of the car. A 426 "crate" motor is pushing $15,000 these days.

good luck

The words Hemi and Budget don't go together at all ! You get one or the other, have a Hemi and shoot the Budget in the head, or follow the Budget and Forget the Hemi.

Wow, good idea, and lots of love will motivate you and your project. Just remember the engine costs; or you could still have a HEMI but with a newer one; 5.7/6.1 for far less than at 426. Just triple your budget and that should cover it. Good luck.

Newbie

I guess what I should be looking for is a '68 Belvedere then? Does anyone just have one lying around? Or know where the is one? I am new to this, but am very eager to get started.

Welcome, You can go to E bay motors, dealsonwheels.com or cars-on-line.com and take a look. I am sure there is one at one of those sites to get. Good luck with your build.

I have a friend here in Detroit that has no less than 3 `69 Road Runners avaliable if your tribute didn't have to be a `68. Great intensions though, I'm sure your sister's father would be proud to have you build that car in part to honor him. What is your budget?, I'll keep my eyes open here, I look for cars everyday anyway.

I dont know, I dont really have one yet! I havent proposed it to my wife either!! This is my first project, and I am kinda ignorant in the fact that I have never done this. I would like a fairly complete car, so I dont have to go searching for "lost parts" that dont exist anymore, and I dont want to get taken either. I would like all the help I can get though. It would be much apprecieated.
