Just thinking about it tonight. I was 12 years old in 1970, and was with my Dad one day at the local Chrysler-Plymouth dealer. There was a Superbird in the showroom. I remember it was Orange. I remember it had a black interior, but don't remember the transmission. I know it was a 6 pack because of the oval air cleaner. I was completely awed and wanted it badly! Tried to convince Dad to buy it.... Of course, Dad was looking at station wagons, and knocked that dream down pretty quick! LOL
Fast forward to 1984... I took a job for a while with a local contractor who was a car guy and raced a Chevy on the local ovals. We got to talking about cars, and I found out that he had been the owner of that same 'Bird. His family had some $$, and his Dad had bought him the car when it was new. He said it had a really sad ending, a year or so later. He told me he drove pretty wild in his young days. Said he had the 'Bird running wide open and topped a hill at over 100MPH. There was a guy in a VW bug in the wrong lane, on his side of the road. The crash killed the bug driver, and put my boss in the hospital for a while. And that was the end of the 'Bird too.
I don't know why I was thinking about it tonight, but thought you guys would appreciate the story, even though it was not a good one....

God blessed me greatly between the ages of 16 and 25. I was always within a point or so of losing my license. How I didn't kill myself or worse yet someone else is a real miracle. But up until about 4 years ago I had never had a accident that was ruled my fault. Marriage at 25 grew me up quick. Taking responsibility does that.

Thank you for sharing.
It reminded me of the time I found a cubed bat in my '69 C500 grill one morning. I had "topped a hill" at 120 the night before...
