I was rummaging thru old pics and found the 1981 Jeep CJ5 I had as a freshman in college. dumped the interior (low back seats) as i am 6'4" and every bump was a kidney shot. I traded my friend that had an 89 Jeep Islander for his interior and roll bar pad...

they were alot of fun :headbang::grin:

talk about a money pit!!! i was commuting about 40 miles..one day in traffic i put the clutch to the floor...and it didn't come back up..i had to synchro shift and shut it off everytime i stopped. Fixed that, then the engine blew..rebuilt that then the trans went..rebuilt that then the clutch went..etc etc etc..was real fun on a college budget.

Affectionately known as a "Heep", by enthusiasts...LOL.... had several, CJ's my dad was a member of the "Georgetown Stump Jumpers" when we lived in Garden Valley, Ca. for many years, I grew up around Heep's whoops sorry I mean "Jeeps", I had 2 early on, bought at an auction, military surplus brand new still had cosmolene covering all kinds of stuff, had to replace every seal in them thou, sold 1 kept the other, 47 Flat Fender Willys 4-cyl. flat head, 50 mph @ full speed baby, put Q78/35" tires on it, got up-to 65 mph, almost even driveable, now that was a "real fun" ride there, you could put in Low gear & 4 wheel low get out, walk up & watch it climb damn near anyway, went on the Rubicon trail many times no problems, other than beating the crap out of me & all the drunken idots....

They are a lot of fun! and thats a nice looking one ya had there (like the color).. My son in law used to play with his back in the woods here, of course anything he could get stuck going thru the creek he had fun with..

I rode in my uncle's CJ5 in Colorado one year to find an old Rocky Mountain ghost town, took us about four hours with lots of stops to plot the best approach up a horse trail that pretty much ended halfway up. When we got to the top of the mountain, there was a rusted-out VW Beetle sitting next to one of the old wooden ruins. Those 'bugs' were indestructible and unstoppable, unlike Jeeps.
