Just bought a '70 Plymouth GTX with a 440/6. It has an aftermarket distributor in it. The seller threw in a Chrysler distributor that he said was the original one. But, this distributor does not have any part number on it. That pad on the side where the part number goes is blank.

(These cars came with either a Chrysler or a Prestolite distributor.)

Thank you for the info, Frank.

The Prestolite distributor provided by the seller of my car does not have any numbers on it; that pad on the side where the number should go is blank. (The car is a manual transmission.)

Mine is also manual, 3438314 is the correct one.
My car had the original distributor when I bought it in 1979 but was a prestolite 2875989 which is correct for a 1970 HEMI automatic ( still have it and is in perfect unrestored condition), don't know if it was replaced before I got the car or a Mopar mistake, my car also had 69 oil pan and idle solenoid.

Well, Chrysler was known for substituting whatever part was at hand on the assembly line if the correct part was not available.

Also, a dealer service department may have replaced those parts with whatever part was at hand at the time or was cheaper.
