Source 440 Stealth heads or Edelbrock RPM's
Both stock, one set run for 6 months and the others are still in the boxes. Any problems with the angled plugs on the RPM's, I will be running headers.

ebrocks work well...but i dont like the blocked look.
the 440source head has a near stock look to it. if painted like i like em, it looks like an iron head..

would depend on the type of car/use...

i have not had a 440source on the bench to know what they move airflow wise..

Mostly street with an occasional blast at the track but will be used in a later 440 build.

The Eddys flow as well as a max ported set of 906's....which went 10.60's on a 440 but the Eddys are still better than any max ported 906 or other open chamber stock ported head just because of the better port design, combustion chamber and angled plugs. I've seen them in the mid 10's on several builds. As for the 440 Source heads....have no idea. As for looks, the Eddys don't bother me a bit. Out of the box Eddys these are....and they can be worked some more.

I seen the adds you are looking at,buy the edelbrocks.Much better quality, angle plugs can be an issue with some headers.Their is more room for machining with the edelbrocks.

ive been to 330 cfm on a set of ebrocks. they will move enough air for anything your planning prolly.

its all up to you though. ive told you my reasons for either or. if you dont mind "looks" and such go ebrock.

Just bought the 84cc Eddy's, he will call me Monday with the shipping charges. Anyone have problems running these with Headman headers???
Thanks for all the info guys!

If you do run into problems with plug clearance I think there are shorty plugs available from Autolite.

Can I run a steel shim head gasket with these??

NO! Run the 1009 gasket. Can't run steel shim on a cast iron block with alloy heads. The expansion rate is different and the steel shim will cut into the aluminum.

Maybe

I have used many brands of aluminum heads between the 2 brands I prefer the Edelbrocks over the Stealths, for quality parts, Castings, design & performance, bang for the buck... As far as headers, It really depends on the style, make & brand headers how tight the radius's are & tubing diameter & thicknesses & how close they hug the heads & block, some Hedman headers will work just fine with the Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads angle plugs design, some will be tight at the plug wire, shorty plugs {Champion, Accell, Autolite, NGK} & a heat sleeve & some wire looms to hold the wires away from the headers, will usually work, if they are tight, I have used Eddy RPMs & Victors with various different exhaust, stock 68-70 HP manifolds, 62-65 Super Stock Max wedge manifolds, Shorty Hedmans, TTI's, Schumachers Tri-Y's, Doug Thorley's & Hookers... Mostly all in B-Bodies 64-70 1-3/4" to 2" header tubes... I have on a couple of my cars with 383-400 Low deck B-blocks, use a plain 1/4" thick header flange {no tubes}, under the headers head flange, with a gasket between each, to get a little extra clearance at the plug tips, ease of getting to plugs & changing them, probably wouldn't work with a 413-426-440 RB block though, blocks too wide headers will hit the steering box &/or the torsion bar on the drivers side or shock tower &/or the torsion bar on the passenger side...

Budnicks, which shorty plug do you recommend, was going to run long Champions...RJ12YC unless you can offer a better plug.

Any of them will be just fine, use a std. plug if it fits with no issues, it's cheaper & easier to find, I personally haven't seen any big differences in any spark plug brands, I like Autolite's & NGKs when I can get them, just because that's what I've used for years, just get the correct heat range, maybe 1 colder, proper length & diameter, Eddy RPM's take a longer 3/4" X 14 mm thread plug...

I have seen both heads work very good. The Source heads are cheaper but I see alot of people running them making good power with a good port job done on them. My self I went with the Indy EZ heads which like the Eddy heads have angled plugs. It works great with my 2" TTI's and in fact the angled plugs give it more room. But I have heard some Hedman headers have clearence issue's. I have heard that some guys will ding the headers a bit to get room at the plug wire with the Hedmans. I would go for it as if it is tight there is alot you can do to fix it. Good luck , Ron

The Edelbrocks are supposed to flow a bit more out of the box.
My friend has ported Edelbrock RPM heads and tried to run with his used set of Headman Hustler headers (in a '70 Satalite) and they would not clear the spark plugs. He ended up buying the TTIs designed for the Edelbrock heads.
I think you can get around 550 HP out of either head pretty easy. If your looking to make 600+ HP have them CNC ported.

On my 505" stroked 440 I did some port clean-up and multi-angle valve job to get a true 290cfm out of the Stealth heads. I used those to try make it look more stock?

TTI's & Shumacher Creative Services are probably the best fitting headers, probably the most expensive of the mass produced types too {ball park priced $500-$600 bare or painted, $700 chromed, to $1000 for some ceramic coated versions}, There is a guy that builds headers for a living, he owns Performance Welding www.perfweldheaders.com , I'm not sure if he's still around on the forum or not, the type, size, length & style of collector is also a very important choice, for your engine to flow at it's best potential, He does custom headers for many professional racers, kind of pricey for the average guy, but check it out... Edelbrock RPM heads or some other heads with the superior angle plug design, most all manufacturers of headers are listed now, if they will or will not fit a Mopar Big Block Wedge with angle plug heads... The ARP or Edelbrock 12 point black heat treated, head bolt & hardened washer kit is only like $70, if I remember correctly... I use studs throughout on most all of my performance/race engine... Like 451Mopar said "The stealth heads will appear allot closer to stock looking" than the Edelbrock RPM's, The Indy EZ's are a great choice also, it seems it depends on a persons funds, which heads are purchased, Stealths are the cheapest, Indy's are the most expensive, Edelbrock's are just about in the middle... I have ran all three & some others... All three mentioned can be made to work, All three are lighter & have better flow un-ported out of the box, than the stock cast iron heads heads {except maybe Max Wedge Heads flow}, All three have great flow potential after a professional porting job, Regardless who's heads you choose, All three should be checked for the proper type & sized valve springs, the properly installed spring heights, the proper/good quality retainers & locks {not some cheap Chinese stuff}, good quality seals, good quality valves, installed valve heights, the proper valve seal on the seats, valve job cut & angles, the valve guide rocker/camshaft lift clearance, push-rod clearances, proper rocker geometry, proper push-rod lengths, straightness & flatness, threads in bolt holes, also free of dirt & debri, all should be thoroughly cleaned & checked before installation... It's cheap insurance, to make sure it all good, before you install them, the cylinder heads are the #1 most important part, to get power out of your engine, they are the lungs of the engine, they need to be able to breath, the engine is just a big air pump, remember what goes in must come out, a good flowing non-restrictive intake & exhaust, is also very important, to aid the flow of the heads... A very wise old engine builder once told me there are 3 very important things to know about building race engines, 1st. Cylinder Heads, 2nd. Cylinder Heads & 3rd. Cylinder Heads

451Mopar your eng looks real good. I wanted my eng in my 63 to have the Max Wedge look as much as I can even though I am not using a crossram. Ron
