TTI's & Shumacher Creative Services are probably the best fitting headers, probably the most expensive of the mass produced types too {ball park priced $500-$600 bare or painted, $700 chromed, to $1000 for some ceramic coated versions}, There is a guy that builds headers for a living, he owns
Performance Welding www.perfweldheaders.com , I'm not sure if he's still around on the forum or not, the type, size, length & style of collector is also a very important choice, for your engine to flow at it's best potential, He does custom headers for many professional racers, kind of pricey for the average guy, but check it out... Edelbrock RPM heads or some other heads with the superior angle plug design, most all manufacturers of headers are listed now,
if they will or will not fit a Mopar Big Block Wedge with angle plug heads... The ARP or Edelbrock 12 point black heat treated, head bolt & hardened washer kit is only like $70, if I remember correctly... I use studs throughout on most all of my performance/race engine... Like 451Mopar said "The stealth heads will appear allot closer to stock looking" than the Edelbrock RPM's, The Indy EZ's are a great choice also, it seems it depends on a persons funds, which heads are purchased, Stealths are the cheapest, Indy's are the most expensive, Edelbrock's are just about in the middle... I have ran all three & some others... All three mentioned can be made to work,
All three are lighter & have better flow un-ported out of the box, than the stock cast iron heads heads {except maybe Max Wedge Heads flow},
All three have great flow potential after a professional porting job, Regardless who's heads you choose, All three should be checked for the proper type & sized valve springs, the properly installed spring heights, the proper/good quality retainers & locks {not some cheap Chinese stuff}, good quality seals, good quality valves, installed valve heights, the proper valve seal on the seats, valve job cut & angles, the valve guide rocker/camshaft lift clearance, push-rod clearances, proper rocker geometry, proper push-rod lengths, straightness & flatness, threads in bolt holes, also free of dirt & debri, all should be thoroughly cleaned & checked before installation...
It's cheap insurance, to make sure it all good, before you install them, the cylinder heads are the
#1 most important part, to get power out of your engine, they are the lungs of the engine, they need to be able to breath, the engine is just a big air pump, remember what goes in must come out, a good flowing non-restrictive intake & exhaust, is also very important, to aid the flow of the heads... A very wise old engine builder once told me there are 3 very important things to know about building race engines, 1st.
Cylinder Heads, 2nd.
Cylinder Heads & 3rd.
