Tonight I picked up a 383 with a casting date of 11-30-66. The pad is stamped C383 then below that 12 and below that 13 and of course the R at the very bottom. It also has the casting number of 2468130-12. I picked it up because of the '66 date and my car is a Feb '66 car. My question is; Could this be a '66 casting stamped as a '67 and installed in an early '67 car? From what I can see the "C" indicates it was a '67 production motor. The twist for me is that there is no VIN pad near the oil pan rail. In '67 they started tracking components by VIN. Or so I always thought?

The model year ran from August to July so a block cast in 11/66 and with a C on the pad would be for a '67 model year car.
Vins were not stamped on blocks and transmissions until '68 and even that is hit and miss.

You need an 11- 65 block for a 2-66 car.

Sounds great! Thanks for the info guys. It was with the price. I was just looking at the original 361 i pulled out of my car and the casting date on it is 8/7/65. Not terribly far off, but definitely a point of reference if I ever get consumed by that stuff.
