Help! I need a close up pic of a fuel tank sending unit. Removed my tank yesterday to clean up and flush and it appears the previous owner removed the screw for the gauge sending unit and covered the hole with some type of epoxy. I don't want to buy a whole new sending unit and I'm sure I can replace the missing pieces on this one. Here is a pic of mine. If anybody has a close up pic I can view, then I can go to the local hardware store and buy the right looking screws, washers, gaskets, and such.

...Just make sure your 'right looking gaskets, and such' are compatable for use with fuel. Something picked up from the plumbing section at Ace or True Value is probably not going to last too long before swelling and leaking.

There is a reason they make fuel compatable hoses, gaskets, and seals...

Probably broke off trying to remove the connector for the fuel gauge wire, trying to troubleshoot the fuel gauge or something.... Anyways, that stud is #10 fine thread I believe. If you have a #10 screw/bolt floating around the garage, see if the connector will slide down and hold itself on it before running to the hardware store. Might be a #8, but leaning heavily towards a #10 (going off memory here). Sorry don't have a pic readily available.

Here are some pictures from an old unit I removed from my GTX about 10 years ago....

Hopefully they will help you see what is missing. The missing bolt on your sending unit is where normally you expect to find an insulated post (bolt with insulation) for the connection of the 5 volt wire from your fuel gauge. This bolt can in no way be in electrical contact with the body of the car or sender unit - otherwise your gauge will not work. As you can see in the last picture, the wire is run out to the variable resistor unit from which is hung the float arm. Also, the gasket for the sending unit needs to be the correct rubber, or else it will dissolve, or walk - causing leaks.

could not tell in your pic,do you still have the sender?if you do i would make sure it works before you mod that unit for no reson.

Thanks for the pics GTX. Hopefully I can find what I need locally without too much trouble. I should be able to get all that stuff for not too much cash. Still way cheaper than a whole new unit.

I am all for fixing stuff, but when it comes to anything fuel related I will buy new.
Senders are still fairly cheap, last one I got was under $70 bucks with shipping, from the U.S to Canada.
