i have a 69 charger that i am in the middle of bringing back to life,it is a 440 auto trans with factory a/c.at this point in my build I am in the process of deciding what to do with the a/c,options are to have my factory box completely restored, its a disaster,go with a classic auto air perfect fit system for a non-a/c car,my concerns with this unit are the fact that I would now have 2 large holes in the firewall that are not used, which means they would have to be either blocked of with some metal work or welded closed and painted to match the color of the car, neither of which is a big deal, and finally the last option would be to get a hot rod or universal a/c kit and make it work.I personally think that getting the stock unit repaired would be the way to go,but never have felt the stock a/c unit working is it an adequate system to cool the car in the middle or summer?I really dont want to go through all this only to be dis-appointed by the performance of the system.Any imput would be appreciated, thanks

redoing the factory unit will hold more value on the car.i have run several aftermarket ac systems in many hotrods, and they do seem to work better than older factory stuff.i guess it all depends on how hot it gets where you live vs retaining factory specs.as a side note,if you go that route,i would fill the factory holes in a way to be removable.dont weld them unless you are sure you will never sell the car.
