I have a power steering pump rebuilt several years ago sitting on a shelf. I used a gear puller to remove the pulley way back then. I am finally getting around to converting my car steering. How the heck do I press the pulley back on????? There is no keyway on the shaft. I was thinking of just sticking a screwdriver in the fill hole and blocking the pump from moving while tightening the bolt, but there has to be a better way. Any suggestions?

regular gear puller to remove the pulley can cause slight deflection & the pulley will wobble &could cause a problem with the belt.... SO check pulley....

On a Pressed on pulley...You must disassemble the pump container to support the shaft to reinstall pulley to revert damage....find all of the proper pry spots to evenly back off reservoir from the pump without distorting the lip on the reservoir.

Use a bolt that has long threads thread on a nut add two washers with oil so they slip thread into shaft hold bolt with wrench and use another to screw down the nut to install pulley

The pulley has a sturdy lip around the shaft hole that I used to pull it, didn't have to pull on the outside of the pulley were the belt rides so it shouldn't be warped... I hope!

Bingo! That should work great!

Or rent the installer tool from a local parts house.

what type of PS Pump do you have...? Thompson is a little tricky..you´ll need a special pulley puller..and a press to reinstall the pulley

This one.
