Need help. Turn signal issue

hI all,
Me newest issue now is that my turn signals work unless I step on the break. Once I step on the break, turn signals stop working. Replaced all of the flasher relays, checked grounds and have chased down everything that myself and my dad can think of.
Any help is always greatly appreciated.

Start with the simple things first... Check fuse box for burn out fuse....know it sounds stupid but check the bulbs again ....Check under dash where column harness & vehicle harness clip in.....

Does it have 4-way flashers and if so where is the switch ? Is it on the steering column or the dash ? Ron

yes. Has 4 ways on the column. Replaced both flashers.

had the column apart yesterday to change the ignition. Checked and cleaned all the turn signal contacts.

i put led bulbs in the tail and the front but got the ones with the resistor built in.

Mathis one has me scratching my head.

I agree with hunt2elk. I cleaned everything inside as well but it didn't help. I replaced the switch and no more problems.

I agree with hunt2elk. I cleaned all the connections on my switch as well but it didn't help. Once I put in a new one the problems disappeared.

What a lot of people do not realize is that all power to the rear lights and signals goes through the turn signal switch in the column, not sure why they designed this way because the slightest wear on the contact points causes an open circuit. It is important to get a wiring diagram of your car even if you don't understand it too much you can trace each conductor one by one and you will see how the puzzle pieces fit together, always start with + power and work your way to the offending device finding all the points in between will help you understand how it all works.

A trick to longevity is not to use your turn switch very much, if possible use hand signals it's still legal

Wrong bulbs?
If you have only a single filament trying to do two things it will not work. Must have a dual filament. 1156 vs 1157 for example.

I believe that I have chased it back all the way to the turn signal switch. Thanks guys I appreciate the help. Already have a new steering wheel to put on, so I'm going to wait for the switch that I just ordered to do it at the same time I'm pulling the steering wheel anyway.

Bigmanjbmopar, I agree that it doesn't make sense that the power for the lights would go through the turn switch but it's what we have to work with now. Always another adventure. Ha Ha

Thanks schindy, and carnut, putting the new turn switch in as soon as it gets here, which is also when the new wheel gets to go on.

Ill be be sure to put up a pic of the new wheel to see what you guys think
(it's not a stock wheel but it has ome wheel now and I don't like it at all)
