I have my fender tag decoded on everything except the axle code.

The car is a 71 Charger 500 383 2bbl 727 auto built at the Lynch Rd plant. The rear is 8 1/4. The axle code on the fender tag is 029. I have scoured every resource available and have turned up empty-handed every time. The decoders list 029 as unknown or not an option. Anybody out there have any idea???

I dont have the car here yet to jack it up and count the rotations...Im just curious. Well actually on a mission now...

Where on the tag does 029 appear? If on the 2nd line directly above L1A, it would be the scheduled build date. A29 for Oct 29th, B for Nov, C for Dec... never seen O there. If on top row, last 3 numbers on the far right, it is the last 3 numbers of the differential assembly number. If original rear in car, last 3 numbers will be 029. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. Im going to jack it up and count the rotations...when I get it here. I'm actually really surprised they put a 8 1/4 rear behind a 383. I'll be even more surprised if its something other than 2.45 or 2.76. I have a knack for getting cars with the longest gears offered lol.

it is weird how some of the 71's were optioned out..
i just parted a unmolested 71 satellite and
it came with a 318 with a/c
a 8 3/4 rear with 11' brakes
the code for 11' brakes was on the fender tag .. b11
just my guess but i doubt you
could even get 11' brakes on a 81/4 rear??
or could you??
