Trying to remove original e brake handle. The repos seem to have a screw included with them. My original seems to only have a metal dowel ? Do you just push the dowel out from one side or is there an actual screw in there ?

Thank you, buddy

The pin (split pin) pushes out and you probably don't care about damaging the old handle BUT it doesn't push back in as easily and you risk damaging the new handle. It can be done but do it on something with a bit of give - like a very hard chunk of rubber or a soft plastic as a backing when you tap in the pin.

Thank you, yeah. I seen that. Left it on. Just wanted to paint the lettering that’s all. Did it still attached.

I'm trying to remember - I think I buggered up the new one so bad I ended up putting the old one back on and painting the letters.

If you don't have any luck pushing out the dowel (like me), use a cutoff wheel to mutilate the plastic of the handle until it comes off in pieces. Then you can yank out the dowel with pliers.

Yikes, you don't work on cars for a living do you ?!?!?

... ok, now we have to cut the left ventricle ... pass me the angle grinder.

If I had to follow through with it. I’d probably use needle nosed vice grips to squeeze the split dowel. Too much work for just painting some letters. My seats are out. So, why bother removing the handle. Looks good as new now.

I used a 1/4 inch drive deep socket about 3/8 size, wedged it between the pull handle & the pillar. Then line up the split pin in the middle of the socket & using a small punch, tapped the pin into the hollow of the socket & the handle then slides right off. To reinstall start the pin in the right side of the handle & again with the socket as your support tap the pin back in until it`s flush. I`ve done this a couple times, works great.
