I am having serious mechanical issues with my 225 slant six engine and I have it tore apart awaiting parts to come in. I need to also put on a new timing chain and I SUCK at setting the timing. I have until Monday the 22nd of August to get this back together and running if there is anyone in the Longview area with a big enough heart to come over, drink a couple beers, eat some BBQ and help a family of 6 to get their 2nd vehicle back on the road just PM me and I will send you my phone number and house directions. I am in a serious jamb and we have been sharing 1 vehicle for a couple months now and its really putting a strain on the marriage.

Thanks!

I should have the engine mostly back together by tomorrow night...I just need some one to help me change the timing chain and set the timing......anyone in the area?

Well, sheeit...I'm guessing the problem is location, my friend. Beer, bar-b-que, hanging in the garage working on cars...say that to me and I hear "spa day". I dont imagine I'm much different than most of the guys on here.

Unfortunately, like apparently everybody else, I'm too far away to make it happen.

If nothing else, there's lots of good reference material on the internet. Read a lot, take notes, go slow and double-check everything.

Hope everything works out, marital dischord sucks.

yeah I agree...I would just like a second pair or hands and eyes and a second opinion on helping to get this car back on the road. Just stopped starting one day. I verified fuel and spark so I went to check the compression...2 cylinders were over 140 but th other 4 were 90 or less. So I figured I had a blown head gasket so tore the engine down yesterday and head gasket looks fine. So I am hopng that it jumped time and I have a fear of timing...

ok! I think I found my problem... I have the cylinder head off and rotated the crank till the #1 piston was at TDC. I verified that the rotor was pointing at the #1 spark plug wire on the distributor. I then pulled the balancer and timing cover and noticed that the line up marks on the gears were not lined up. The crank gear was correct but the cam gear was facing the opposite direction of where it needed to be. I took the chain off which was so badly stretched that it was laying down onto the gears. I rotated the cam gear to where the two dot were lined up in the center like they should be, however, now the rotor is facing the opposite direction.

Could someone please give me step by step instructions on how to set timing on a 225 for dummies? I have to get this engine back together this weekend and I believe this is the only thing holding me up. And I want to make sure that I get it done right the first time before reassembling everything.

Also if someone wants to just call me, my number is 903-three three one- 22 Five zero

Thanks!

did you check timing order before you tore it down? You said rotor was pointing at #1 before you tore it down, You also said the crank dots were opposite what there supposed to be. So what im getting here is you were set up as Cam 12 O-clock... Crank 12 O-clock. Is this right?
