Whats the best way to see if my sender is bad? i think it is because my car will only read 1/2 a tank but it is all the way up to the top of the neck full...i figure its probably not the gauge since all the rest of mine work..whats the best way to test and if bad change the sender?

Ohms test........One contact to the metal housing of the sending unit, the other contact to the stud for the wire connection. Ohms should read from 10-80 from one side of the spectrum to the other, either being empty or full.

I'm not sure about the '66, but on my '68 and '9, it would be pretty dang tough to pull the sending unit without dropping the tank (at least dropping the front). It has a 3" twist lock securing ring, then the sender, then a seal, then the tank. They make a tool for that twist ring (cheap and easy to find), but some taps from a hard vinyl trip tool and wood/rubber ended hammer/maller work good (AVOID screw drivers and regular hammers if fuel is in the tank.....Kaboooom!!!)

Yup, do what "Propwash" says.

you can ground the wire that goes to the tank to check everything else before you drop the tank.it should cause the guage to read full with wire fully grounded.might save you some work.
