Okay, Crazy Idea #446. I got a flip-top gas cap for a 69 Charger off a forum member a while back, and I'm wanting to install it on my Roadrunner now that I'm getting it ready to hit the road again. I've always liked the looks of these caps, and I hate like Hell bending over to fill the tank using the filler behind the license plate. Always seemed like a pain in the ***.
So, here's the challenges:
1. Where to locate it? I think it would fit fine on the driver's quarter, but I have the Superbird decals back there so space is rather limited. I was thinking putting it between the PLYMOUTH and the stripe, but don't know how good that would look. I also considered the sail panel area, but didn't know how that would look either.
2. I have the cap and the bezel. I can mount the cap separately, which makes the footprint a bit smaller, but it does take away from the effect. You can see the differences in size in this example:
3. As for connecting the cap to the tank, I was thinking of getting a 69 filler tube, cutting it to fit, and then using rubber fuel line to run from the filler to the stock filler for the tank. Kind of a long fuel run. Plan B was to get a 69 Charger tanks and trying to adapt it to the situation, but that might be a lot of work.
So... I was wondering what ideas/suggestions you all might have?
