I'm amazed at how hard it is for me to decide what wheels would be best for my 73 Roadrunner tribute. From the very beginning, I had planned to use good old MoPar rallye wheels. Here's the rub; I don't care for the centers used on 73s, and would like the look of the dark argent centers. Now that the time is close to ordering, I'm having second thoughts. Is it worth giving up a little on what I like to make it more correct? Here are my ideas

1) To heck with what anyone else thinks, go with the early centers.
2) Go with the correct centers and let the others complain about something else.
3) Buy a new set of Crager SS wheels, which would have been a common mod in the 70s
4) Mopar Magnum 500s (never been a fan, but I could get used to them)
5) Go with rallyes with early centers, but pick up a set of late centers for shows.

Look forward to your input.

Do you really want to be changing out centers everytime you go to a show? Pull off the wheels and remove the screws for the center caps that like to strip out the caps and bust off when sneezed on wrong?

The heck what with everyone else thinks. Do you honestly want to have a car that you sit back a gaze at and think "I love the car but I'm just not that big off fan of those rims? Too bad that might raise some questions with everyone else if I swapped them out."

The hell with that. When people give me grief on my Coronets non chrysler paint color, I just kindly remind them that it's a good damn thing it's not their car. Should we all agree to what chrysler thought was most appealing when these cars were built. Ummm no, it's my car, my hobby, and I'll make it look like whatever appeals to me.

I can see the guys that own the "Premier cars" (low numbers built, highly optioned, low miles), they approach their cars more as an investment, and by keeping stock they are protecting their money.

I think with us more run of the mill folks, the sky's the limit. Bottom line... My opinion, do whatever is going to make you happy!

X2 I agree with Propwash. Do what you like on the whole car. Just because you are doing a tribute car you can add or take off what you don't want. If you like the small center caps go for it,or a different set of wheels all together.

I have the crager SS on my '69 Roadrunner and I like them. I choose them because they looked good and were affordable. I would do what makes you happy because in the end your thoughts about YOUR car are all that matter. BTW frame, what color do you have sprayed on your car I'm asking because mine is T5 Bronze fire...well actually right now it's rust and red primer but someday it will be T5 and I haven't seen that many cars with the color.

DO it how you like. Crager SS or early Supertricks, can't go wrong. Or the new like 2009 M & T wheels. You really want the car to stand out and a good set of wheel and tires will really make that Bronze pop. How about a set of American mags? I think that would make the car look great.

I have ten spoke Mopar aluminum wheels off a Dodge Mirada on my 70 Road Runner. Got them from a boneyard and had them rebuilt. I gave a set to my brother for his 71 Road Runner and they look great on his car too. 15x7 alloys, 100% Mopar!

One of the COOLEST things about the Mopars is the "non-flashy" rims. I agree with the first two fella's. Build it how YOU like it. When most people pop-off about your rims not being correct or whatever, take it with a grain of salt, certainly don't let it bother you. Most of the guys that are commenting on your car probably don't have one and need something to complain about to justify themselves...

To me, these cars are business only. No flash, just power, torque and speed. I'll leave the flash to the GM guys. Cool car, and I dig the color!!!

BTW, I converted my Bro-N-Law from Ford to a '63 Dodge... One ride, that's all it took me. '68 Dart with a NASTY 440, roll cage and a Dana 60, bucket seats, no carpet, radio, door panels or back seat. An absolute rattle-trap that had me white knuckled and screaming like a little girl the entire ride. After exiting the car, I thought to myself, "I gotta get me one of these!!!" The rest as they say, is history.

To me that body style just screams out for some wide meats and a low profile stance, but it's your car so make yourself happy.
