My 96 XJ just let me down the other day. Ended up putting a fuel pump in it. Other than that I love mine! I've had an 87, 90, and 2 1996's.

My last Ford got sold in the mid 70's and that was a 66 Mustang Fastback. Weird stuff broke on that car and even the pedal assembley came apart on it....TWICE! The second time it came apart, I was at the top of 3rd gear (4 speed) and about to hit 4th and yeah it was floored. Fixed it the first time with all new genuine Ford parts. The 2nd time I fixed it my way but screw that crap. Got rid of 5 Mustangs with the last one being the Fastback and never bought anything with that name again.

My 71 Torino GT broke weird stuff too.

Distributor advance plate spring tower broke ???
(why was it made out of bakelite?)

The letter "G" (from GT) fell off the rocker trim on one side.

Ate a starter every 3000 miles.

...and It had the same floor shift "slip out of park into reverse" problem that pintos had.

Yes they are. Pulled a minivan uphill 120yds though the mud yesterday. Thats a real nice XJ you got there.

a question guys what years did they make the MJ's ?? could you get them with a V-8 ??

cool little lifted XJ jeep...

100k miles on my 01 Ranger and it's still going strong. Plus, Ford just announced that it'll be hiring almost 3,000 people in my broke-*** state, so another reason to dig the blue oval.

I'm pretty sure the MJ , commonly known as the Comanche were available from 1986 through 1992 only. Thats why you don't really see a lot of them. They were available with the 2.5 4 banger or the much more powerfull 4.0 6cyl HO. Mine has a new 4.0 in it along with any other mechanical part I could replace or rebuild. Basically a new vehicle . At least mechanically. I believe I have seen somewhere that someone refitted an MJ or XJ with a small block chebbie. I dont see why a small block Mopar wouldnt work. Oh, also, There is a site set up by Joey "Forjeepsonly" Not as much action as here , but its starting to get better."

mine has only got 124k on it. and it leaks gas out of the tank, through the hose, just some wierd stuff. makes some wierd noise when i start it, it does some really strange things. i ask myself why then i remember its a ford.

who needs a mustang----when your hung like a horse----------------------- the door was open cranky

I've had five Ford Crown Victoria P71 (police package) and one Police Interceptor, and aside from my road runner they're the only cars I've been driving since 1991. I've driven every one of them until they turnover 300,000 miles and I've only had to replace two alternators and a water pump. My 1995 two-tome blue Vic was a local police car in Kingston, NH and I sold it to a guy down here in FL when it hit the 300K mark back in 2007, and I still see that car driving around from time to time so it's still kicking.

Best cars on the road!
