Hi All,

You might have seen my Wildwood brake failure, so I was in the market for a new Brake kit. I ended up with getting a kit locally (Australia) from Hopper Stoppers. This uses a big twin pot calliper of the local ford falcon, along with the falcons 300mm disc. For me an up side is it also converts to a hub rather than a single mount Disc. In theory I should be able to bolt on the performance 6pot calliper and 355mm disc at a later date if I decide I need it.

I was pretty impressed with the quality, so I thought I'd share.

Not much of an option for you guys in the US, but worth sharing none the less. Also a comparison of the new kit to the Wildwood 4pots. The wildwood bracket was 6.5mm Aluminium - the new kit is 10mm steel.

thats a nice looking setup. looks strong and will be stopping your ride with no problem

That looks to be a well engineered system. The Willwood looks kinda scary in compare. How thick are those rotors?Look beefy.
If you don't mind post the going price for the kit.

I've never used Wilwood, and have never really been all that impressed with them. Although this looks more backyardish, it looks good. Curious as to how well it does for you. The calipers look more like stock 69 units

The Rotors are 28mm thick - the willwoods I had were 20.5mm thick as comparison.

I actually think they look pretty professional, but having said that its hard to see some of the features that make me think that in the photo. for example, there are two brackets - an L shape and a C (almost bone shape) shape, the calliper basically butts up to the L shape bracket on its edge and the edge of the C shaped bracket basically rests on the edge of the drum spindle. To the point where I had to file back some casting flash on both sides so that it would butt up nicely. So not only is it significantly thicker and stiffer, it also has all components resting against each other in case there is an flex - very smart.

So there was a delay in me bedding and testing them, the wheel on the side where the willwoods failed actually got buckled slightly. So I have been looking for a replacement. I did manage to test them on the weekend anyway, I bolted up the 15x6" stock steelies to the front. They would have clear as is with minor clearancing to the top forward edge of the caliper (which is pretty amazing!) but I ran a 1" bolt on spacer instead so there was plenty of room.

All I can say is WOW! Massive improvement over the willwoods! The Willwoods used to be kinda scary, I really had to lean on them to pull up fast, but these pull up nearly as good as a new car. Certainly as good as mid 2000's new car quality braking now. Which is exactly what I wanted, so I'm very happy!

Price isn't cheap, spec'd with ADR (DOT in Australia) braided brake lines and slotted/drilled rotors, they cost me $1580 aud - about $1170usd at current rates. but I would do it again in a heart beat! well worth it.

Not a bad price at all. Too bad us Americans would have to deal with customs and shipping.

Yup, the one down side is the weight, that wouldn't make it too freight friendly...
