It is a 440 source kit with a 4.15 stroke that comes out to 493 with a .030 over 440 block. The indy EZ heads are ported to Max Wedge size and I have a dished piston to give me 10.6 comp as it will be a pump gas eng. Cam is a custom grind flat tappet solid with 264 and 270 at .050 and .630 and .634 lift with my Hughes 1.6 rockers. It is a 110 LSA and I have it in at 106. Intake is the Indy dual plane and I will have to start using my 850 DP until I get a bigger carb. Also new 2" TTI headers and 3" exh with an X-pipe. I think thats pretty much it. Thanks for the replies. Ron
What kind of valve covers are those? I have 1.6 rockers and want to do what you did. Call me a copy cat or what ever. I was told that the stock covers wouldn't clear the rockers so I went with an aluminum set but not real keen on the looks.
Thanks for the kind replies. The valve covers were an older set of chrome Eddy valve covers. They were on the original 383 in the car when I bought it. They were scratched up some and I wanted this Max Wedge look so I decided to paint them and see how they look. The plus is that they are taller then the stock covers and clear my 1.6 rockers and still give the Max Wedge look. I know they are not a perfect match with a stock Max Wedge valve cover but they let the roller rockers fit and give a close enough look for me.
As for performance difference ?? Well the best the car has run with the old eng is 11.49 @ 116 and it is a stock 440 shortblock with KB pistons. It has 906 heads I ported and 10.0 comp. I run the MP .557 solid cam and Isky iron rockers. Holley Street Dominator intake with an 850 DP. Hedman 1-3/4 headers and a Mallory dist with MP ign box.
The new eng is 440source stroker kit with a 4.15 crank (493 in .030 over 440) and I used a dished piston to keep the comp at a pump gas friendly 10.6. Thats with the small chamber Indy EZ head as I am using the EZ heads from Indy. They are opened up to max wedge size ports and have some porting done on them also. They flowed 340 at .600. I also am using the Indy dual plane intake opemed up to max wedge ports and port matched to the heads. Cam is a custom grind solid flat tappet at 264 and 270 @ .050 with .630 and .634 lift with the 1.6 Hughes roller rockers. Ground on a 110 LSA and I installed it at about 106.
Well I built the eng in the car wanting to hit 11's and it did that and some. I built this eng hoping to get in the 10's and it should have the power as long as I did everything right ! Time will tell and thanks for the replies. Ron
