Hello folks,

I have a set of new door hinges that bear a rough but shiny finish - I suspect they are plated (zinc?). I think they are from AMD. My question is, will this finish take primer and paint OK? Or do these need to be treated in some way before the primer/paint will have enough "tooth" to properly bond?

Thanks.

Scuff with red scuff pad, Degrease, Spray with etching primer, then straight to color

I agree. Zinc can sometimes cause adhesion problems, so make SURE to scuff it well & you should be fine. Door hinges don't take too much abuse. And don't forget the etching primer, just like Mike says.
