Hey y'all, wanted to introduce myself before I started asking too many questions. I purchased a '66 Belvedere II last summer after only ever having fords. It has the original 318poly, a pretty nice interior and only couple of rust spots! I moved out to central Texas about a year ago from Abilene and I'm finally getting some time to work on her. Here is where my ignorance begin and questions start. I've read up a lot on the 318 poly and it seems like a decent motor. I'm looking at getting it rebuilt before this summer but I was wondering what are some other options I might have. It has a manual three speed. I don't want to go changing out the radiator, tranny, driveshaft and all those things that I'm guessing would need to be done for a BB. On a side note I already have a dual quad and a single 4barrel for the poly. Thanks for the help.

David

Welcome, a lot of good people here that, collectively, pretty much know everything about MoPar.

Funny thing, all i ever owned was Fords before I bought my '67. Looks like a really solid car, have fun!

Welcome aboard! I have a 67 GTX and love that body style!

Maybe buy a 360 block and have it stroked. Depends on your pocket book and desire. I assume you want as much out of it as you can get or you wouldn't have done a 4bbl conversion. The 360 is a small block like the 318 so making massive changes elsewhere won't be an issue.

A well built 360 (400+hp) with decent road manners is definetly doable.

Your poly intakes are valuable.
I like that color.
3 spd manual? interesting.

As I've said numerous times...the worst thing about a poly is that after you beat a Ford or GM guy with a 350/351 thatguy won't stop telling you that your motor is big block.

merkfalc,
Welcome aboard.
Nice car. It's the "build" that gets exciting. Put the big 440 in it!
By the way, I like the golf cart.
I restored my golf cart to match my 1970 superbee.
I'll send you a pic of the cart.
Anyway, again, thanks for joining the community.

Thanks for all the kind words. I fell in love with this body style after seeing one somewhere. Before I had a '64 falcon convertible with the 6 cylinder and really got tired of always having problems with the top and finding parts to get the motor going good and the two speed tranny, tiny axle and so forth. Found this one up in Burleson for the right price. Factory a/c car with new brakes, lines, a new gas tank, and a really clean interior. No golf cart in this garage! Thats a riding lawn mower on the right and a '69 bug that I tinker on. I also have a '71 XK22 I work on. I always have too many projects going on but I can't bring myself get rid of any just yet! Thanks for the heads up on the 360, for some reason I always thought it was a small big block.

merkfalc,

Dare to be different! The stock specs on this 'semi-hemi' are 230hp & 340ft pds of torque(!) with a 2bbl! It just needs to breath. Under the mentoring of Gary Pavlovich, I am completeing my Poly 318 build. Do a search of his name on this site, and the internet...you will find he has some published articles on this.

The short of it: I'll have about $5K in my build, with machine work...which can vary by geographical location...I went to 2.02/ 1.60 valves, bored .040 over, double roller chain, porting, balancing, a `62 factory 4bbl manifold and an Edelbrock 650. Like was said earlier, can't wait to explain to someone that it really is just an 'old 318'. Gary is a wealth of Poly info and happy to share it. Good luck and keep us updated!

Sweet Mopar! Welcome to the board.
My vote would be to ditch the mindset of settling with the 318, and saving your nickels and dimes for a big block/727 swap; but their is nothing wrong with a hopped up, dual quad 318 either!

I'm talking with Gary right now actually. I'm still a little on the fence though and trying to some other ideas which is how I found this site. As for the big block, I just don't think that is the path I want to go with this thing. I want to keep it getting semi-decent mileage, just want a little more oomph out of it.

we have twins. mine is also a 66 belvedere II, a/c, powersteering, manual brakes, poly 318, 3 on the column.

i would love to see interior shots.

yours looks to be in alot better shape though.

Here are a few more pics. Only one of the interior.
